(a)

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The constant voltage during controlled-potential electrolysis has to be identified.   Also the working, auxiliary and reference electrodes have to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

Working electrode: In electrochemical reaction, an electrode where main reaction occurs is called working electrode.  It is placed in between auxiliary and reference electrode.

Reference electrode:  An electrode which can measure working electrode’s potential is called reference electrode.  It is also known as calomel electrode.

Auxiliary electrode:  It is an electrode which supports current flow in working electrode.  It is also called as counter electrode.

(b)

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The Luggin capillary and its measuring of potential has to be explained.
