Textbook Question
Chapter 16, Problem 1RQ
What is the primary use of a limit switch?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
The primary use of a limit switch.
Explanation of Solution
Limit switches are the switches that control the operation of an equipment with respect to the presence or absence of an object at specific location. The limit switch contains a bumper arm that changes the contacts state when the bumper arm is obstructed by an object. The limit switches are combined with control relays to control the operation of an equipment.
Hence, the limit switches are considered as pilot devices that control the relay coils and motor starter coils. The primary role of a limit switch is to detect whether an object is present or absent in specified location.
