Linear expansion is defined as the increase in the length of a material in context with increase in the temperature of the material. Formula used for calculating the linear expansion is given below:

  L=L0(1+αΔT)

Where,

  αΔT is the change in temperature helps in determining the fractional change in length.

  ΔLL0 is the fractional change in length.

Thermal expansion is the tendency of the material to change its shape, area, and volume corresponding change in temperature.

Refractories are defined as the nonmetallic material which withstand high temperature based on the chemical and physical properties. Refractories are of following types:
