Concept explainers
The factor/factors necessary for the production and transmission of sound.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A pressure variation that is transmitted through matter is a sound wave.
Sound needs a medium for its propagation.
When a body vibrates, the particles of the medium also start vibrating, hence producing waves.
When a source of sound vibrates, it creates a periodic disturbance in the medium near it, that is, the conditions of medium changes. The disturbance then travels in the medium in form of waves, that is, transmitting the sound wave.
Conclusion:
Sound needs a medium for its production and transmission.
