When a chemical reaction which is in equilibrium is disturbed, then a principle is used to minimize the disturbance known as Le Chatelelier’s principle.
Le Chatelelier’s principle states that every chemical reaction tries to minimize the disturbance of equilibrium. On increasing the concentration the equilibrium shifts in the direction where the concentration is less.
Interpretation:
Explain the Le Chatelier’s principle by using question 12.
Concept introduction:
Initially the concentration of reactant is maximum and concentration of product is almost zero in a chemical reaction
In starting of the
In final stage concentration of product is more than the reactant.

- When a mixture of hydrogen and bromine is maintained at normal atmospheric pressure and heated above 200. °C in a closed container, the hydrogen and bromine react to form hydrogen bromide and a gas-phase equilibrium is established. Write a balanced chemical equation for the equilibrium reaction. Use bond enthalpies from Table 6.2 ( Sec. 6-6b) to estimate the enthalpy change for the reaction. Based on your answers to parts (a) and (b), which is more important in determining the position of this equilibrium, the entropy effect or the energy effect? In which direction will the equilibrium shift as the temperature increases above 200. °C? Explain. Suppose that the pressure were increased to triple its initial value. In which direction would the equilibrium shift? Why is the equilibrium not established at room temperature?arrow_forward5.11. Determine the numerical value of Q for the reaction conditions indicated.arrow_forward7-17 If a certain reaction takes 16 h to go to completion at 10°C, what temperature should we run it if we want it to go to completion in 1 h?arrow_forward
- 5. The reaction of cobalt chloride and hydrochloric acid is considered to be slightly endothermic. Explain how the ice bath impacted the reaction in terms of Le Chatelier's principle, and the value of Kc.arrow_forwardFrom the table, what overall conclusions can you make about the direction of equilibrium shift in this reaction? Are your observations consistent with Le Chatelier’s principle?arrow_forwardDiscuss Le Chatelier's Principle in not more than 20 words.arrow_forward
- Describe Le Chatelier's principle and describe how it would slow down a endothermic reaction in a cold room.arrow_forwardBased upon the chemical equilibrium reaction shown below explain what will happen in each scenario and why?arrow_forwardNitrogen dioxide undergoes a reversible dimerization reaction according to the following equation: 2NO2 = N2O4 If 0.2 mole NO2 is placed in a 1.0 L flask at 298K and the reaction is allowed to reach equilibrium, one finds that at equilibrium, the flask contains 0.0204 mole NO2 and 0.0898 mole N2O4. From this information find both the concentration-based equilibrium constant (Kc) and the pressure-based equilibrium constant (Kp).arrow_forward
