Concept explainers
In taking a photograph, what would happen to the image if you cover up the bottom half of the lens?
The result of the image when the bottom half of the lens is covered while taking photograph.
Answer to Problem 4TE
The image formed will be dimmer when the bottom half of the lens is covered while taking a photograph.
Explanation of Solution
A clear image is created when all the rays reflected from an object falls on the lens of a camera.
The rays of light from each part of the body reach the lens even when the bottom half of the lens is covered. But, some rays of light from each part of the body are blocked from entering the lens. An image is still created since half of the rays from every part of the body passing through the lens is enough for image formation. But, the image formed will be dimmer than when the lens is covered due to lesser light rays involved.
Conclusion:
Therefore, we cannot see an elliptical segment of a rainbow by moving sideways from the point of sight of a circular arced rainbow.
