The microstructure and hardness of the given steel after its heat treatment is to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Microstructure is a small-scale structure of the material surface as revealed by a microscope magnification above $25\times$ 2. It strongly influences the physical properties of materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics or composites in terms of its toughness, strength, hardness, ductility, corrosion resistance, high or low-temperature behavior, and wear resistance.

The designation, hardenability and applications of the given steel are to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Steel is an alloy made from the combination of iron, carbon and other elements. It has high tensile strength and is low in cost due to which its majorly used as a component in making buildings, infrastructure, ships, tools, machines, automobiles, weapons, and appliances.

The mechanical properties of the given steel are to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Mechanical properties are defined as the physical properties of a material that exhibits when forces are applied to them. Some of the examples of mechanical properties of a material are modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, density, fatigue limit, etc.
