The intermolecular forces are of five types:

1. Hydrogen Bonding

2. Ionic Bonding

3. Ion-induced dipole forces

4. Ion-dipole forces

5. Van der Waals forces

When any salt gets dissolved in water, its ions get surrounded by water molecules and becomes hydrated and the process is called hydration. It is an example of solvation.
