Question
Chapter 12, Problem 5Q
Summary Introduction
To explain: The ionic basis of an action potential passes along an axon.
Concept introduction: Action potential continues when the membrane potential of a particular axon position arises and drops rapidly. These adjacent positions depolarize when the continuous depolarization is shown. In neurons, for cell-to-cell communication, action potential plays a central role considering to the saltatory situation, stimulating the propagation of the signals along with the neuron’s axon toward synaptic terminals located at the bottom of the axon. In other cells, the main function of action potential is to stimulate intra-cellular processes.
