To analyze:
An error that occurs during cell division.
Introduction:
Cell division is a part of a cell cycle in which parent cells divide to produce two or more daughter cells. It involves the separation of genetic material into the two daughter cells.
Explanation of Solution
Nondisjunction: When homologous chromosomes (meiosis) or sister chromatids (meiosis/mitosis) fail to separate during cell division, then daughter cells are produced with an abnormal number of chromosomes.
Nondisjunction is an error that occurs during cell division.
It results in extra copies of certain chromosomes or only one copy of a particular chromosome in the offspring.
Nondisjunction can result in Trisomy that is a set of three chromosomes of one kind present in the nucleus.
Monosomy is the condition when only one copy of a particular chromosome is present in the nucleus.
