Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The sequence of the different stages of development is known as the life cycle. It starts with the development of gametes (sperm and egg) and ends with the development of an adult organism. The lifecycle of an animal depends on the way of reproduction. Some animals give birth to young ones, like mammals such as human and dogs, while others lay eggs, such as birds and reptiles.

Why is it easier to manipulate embryonic stem cells to differentiate into various tissues than it is to manipulate a typical adult cell?   a. As cells develop, signaling pathways can cause some genes to be turned off during development.   b. Adult cells have different DNA content than do embryonic stem cells.   c. Emybronic stem cells pose less of a threat for organ rejection as do an individual s own adult cells.   d. It is no easier to manipulate emybronic stem cells to differentiate into various tissues than it is to manipulate a typical adult cell.
You are studying reproduction in starfish (also known as sea stars).  You are able to successfully extract sperm and eggs from individuals in the lab and artificially fertilize the eggs.  What is the second thing you expect to see (from this list) in the zygote/embryo after successful fertilization? Group of answer choices A. development of a barrier against sperm entry B. rapid cell division without growth C. rapid growth and cell division D. development of organs
Bicoid is normally found at one end of a fly egg.  A defective form of bicoid results in an embryo with two tail ends.  If the normal form of bicoid was placed at both ends of an egg what would be the result? Group of answer choices A. a normal larva B. a fly with body parts in the wrong regions C. an embryo with two tail ends D. an egg with no cell division E. an embryo with two head ends
