Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: Two liquids-one polar, one nonpolar are given to have the same molar mass. The liquid which have higher boiling point and an explanation regarding this is to be stated.

Concept introduction: Boiling point of a substance is the temperature at which the vapor pressure is equal to the atmospheric pressure. During the process of boiling the liquid state of molecule converts to the vapor state. In liquid state molecules are closer to each other than the vapor state. Therefore, this process requires energy. In polar molecules strong intermolecular interaction is present while in nonpolar molecule weak dispersion or London forces are present. The boiling point of polar molecule is always higher than the nonpolar molecule.

To determine: The liquid that corresponds to a higher boiling point and an explanation for the same.
