Chapter 1, Problem 10DQ
Program Plan Intro
Cloud computing:
- Cloud computing is a type of computing that relies on computer resources sharing rather than the application running on local computing devices such as servers, computers, tablet, and Smart phones.
- In a cloud computing, the cloud is used as a symbol for the internet, it means that the cloud computing is a type of internet based computing.
Characteristics of cloud computing:
The general characteristics of cloud computing are as follows:
On-demand self-service:
- Allow the customer or subscriber of the cloud to use the applications without installation, communication and access their personal files.
- The computing requirements are server, network storage, and software applications.
Broad network access:
- The broad network access is an important component of cloud computing.
- The services provided by the cloud provider must be accessible over the network from any location and any standardized platform.
Resource pooling
- Resource pooling is the ability to provide the services to multiple subscribers for their needs.
- The resources are assigned at the time of subscriber’s login and it will be changed dynamically based on their needs.
- The subscribers are unaware of the location of resource where the reassignment is done.
- Maintaining, upgrading, and administrating the hosts contributed to the cloud is a burden of the cloud provider.
Rapid elasticity
- This refers to the ability to provide increased computing resources in peak hours without the concern of system overload and additional hardware requirements.
- The size and capacity of the cloud should allow the user to increase and decrease as per their need and allow payment of the amount based on the usage.
Measured service
- The cloud provider must measure the usage for the billing purposes.
- The analysis of the usage, changes and updates are developed primarily from obtained data in usage meters.
