What is the role played by nitric oxide in preventing atherosclerosis? Describe all tissue and endothelialfactors for local control of blood flow.
Atherosclerosis is a cardiovascular condition of hardening and narrowing of arteries which can put blood flow at danger as the arteries block. This can be an unusual cause of a heart attack, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease.
Endothelial cells are present on the inner lining of the vasculature and it controls vascular functioning by reacting to various hormones, neurotransmitters, and vasoactive factors. The stable production of these vasoactive factors is atheroprotective, but if the endothelium is damaged it causes disrupted production of these factors. This endothelial dysfunction (ED), is a sign of atherosclerosis.

Hint, draw a general model of vascular structure from the aorta to the vena cava, and plot how the variables mentioned above change as blood moves along the vessel system.arrow_forwardHemostasis is a quick and localized sequence (cascade) of events that helps to prevent a hemorrhage from occurring when a blood vessel is damaged. Hemostasis involves – amongst other things – the formation of a platelet plug. Describe the three steps involved in the formation of a platelet plug.
