Question
Using the information provided along with your project definition, project scope statement, and any assumptions you think you need to make, perform the activities below:
    1. Determine the activities (tasks) required to accomplish the project. This is a rough draft task list at this point. Identify the major milestones from the task list.
    2. Create a Project Charter, a template is provided below, but feel free to use any template you prefer
As you know, there are 5 Project Life Cycle phases that you will apply to the Painting at JWU Project:
• Phase 1: Initiation
• Phase 2: Planning
• Phase 3: Execution
• Phase 4: Monitoring & Controlling
• Phase 5: Closure
We continue with the Painting at JWU project moving into Phase 2 by creating the project milestones and the project charter.
Scenario:
Pretend that you are the owner of a company that performs interior painting services. You submitted a bid (the project definition and scope
statement) to Johnson & Wales University for the painting project and were awarded the project.
Please note:
For purposes of this course, we are not concerned with any of the costs associated with the project.
• This is a simple project to help you learn the basics so the charter is not expected to be as detailed as the text implies.
For your reference, the project information as presented by the head of Johnson & Wales University facilities is as follows:
The head of Johnson & Wales University facilities presented at the conference:
"Thank you all for attending. I am very pleased to have these fine companies attending and submitting bids to paint all of the classrooms
in Xavier Hall. The Hall has five floors and there are six classrooms on each floor that require painting. Each floor has rooms numbered
foo, f01, F02, F03, f04, and f05 where the f is the floor number for example the first floor has rooms 100-105 respectively. The bottom
floor rooms start with a G (e.g. G01). The rooms are all basically the same: 9-foot height, 40 ft x 30 ft. You will not be painting the ceilings,
floors, windows, or doors. You must remove the furniture. Our custodial team will remove projectors and whiteboards. The work
cannot interfere with the normal classroom schedule (7 am through 9 pm Monday through Thursday.) You must have a member of our
security team present during the work.
The colors to be used will match the Blue, Gold, and White from the university logo. We need you to choose high-quality durable paint
that can withstand considerable contact. The front wall of each classroom shall be painted with erasable marker paint. Please provide
details of your selections. The job must be completed in a six-week period corresponding to a schedule which you will set. Please
describe your painting technique, space requirements, and conditions for acceptance. The scope statement, once approved, will form
the basis of the contract."
