To diagnose someone with HIV, what do they look for in the blood?

Step 1
AIDS ( acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is caused by HIV ( human immunodeficiency virus). This virus is a member of retroviruses.
Initially patient with HIV infection feel influenza like symptoms ( fever, sore throat ,fatigue etc) then there is progressive decrease in immunity.
Step 2
To diagnose someone with HIV we look for antibodies against HIV antigens. Antibodies are produced by our immune system to fight against infections and prevent invasion of foreign antigens. But as HIV attacks CD4 cells , there is lack of effective antibodies as the disease progresses the patient becomes immunocompromised and prone to various opportunistic infections.
