Step 1. Think of a recent incident (in the last year or so), in which you took some action as a leader. Describe the context. Where were you and the other(s)? What was the task you were working on? Why were you doing the task? What was or should have been the common goal? What happened? What role did you play in the situation? What roles did others in the group play? How did it go? Tell the story: Beginning ….. middle ...end. Step 2. Feelings. What were you thinking and feeling at the time? How (if at all) have these feelings changed? Step 3. Evaluation. What was good and bad about the experience? Make a judgement. Step 4. Analysis. What sense can you make of the situation? Explore the details of what happened. Explore the "why" of your judgements. What challenged you? Was there any problem, difficulty, or disappointment for you? If so, what was that about and how did you deal with it?

Think if a crisis situation you are familiar with involving a group, team, organization, or country, and analyze it in terms of the leader- follower- situation framework. For example, were the followers looking for a certain kind of behavior from the leader? Did the situation demand it? Did the situation, in fact, contribute to a particular leader's emergence?
