Step 1

Recrystallization is a slow process by which a solid organic compound can be purified. In this process, an impure solid compound is dissolved in a particular solvent. When the solution is allowed to cool, it crystallizes out as pure solid. The principle of recrystallization is that the amount of solute which can be dissolved by a solvent increases with temperature.

Step 2

In-order to do recrystallization, certain steps has to be followed.

First, a suitable solvent has to be selected and the impure solid has to be dissolved in a small amount of hot solvent.
By the process of filtration, insoluble impurities can be removed. By cooling the hot solution, the pure solid will crystallise out from the solution.
The solution can be filter to separate the purified solid compound.
