Question

During DNA replication, why is it that the entire molecules does not open in one go?

Expert Solution
Step 1

DNA replication is the process of making two identical copies of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) from one original copy. This process occurs in the nucleus of the cell when the cell is in the S (synthesis)phase of the cell cycle. The replication is semi conservative that is, both the parent strands act as a template and upon replication a duplicate daughter strand is made with one strand conserved from the parent and the other are a newly synthesized complementary strand. The replication occurs in both directions from 5’to 3’.
