When calcium ions are higher, which is 10.5 mg/dL of blood, the condition is referred to as hypercalcemia. Hypercalcemia may occur due to the tumor of the thyroid gland as the thyroid hormones regulate calcium. It may also occur due to excessive vitamin D ingestion, bone disorder, or renal failure. On the other hand, when calcium levels get lowered (8.7 mg/dL) than the normal levels in the blood, the condition is referred to as hypocalcemia. This condition may result from vitamin D deficiency or parathyroid hormone inefficiency.
