The chromosomal alteration could be the structural or numerical abnormalities that exist in an individual chromosome or whole set of chromosomes respectively. The numerical abnormality will have either missing or extra to the normal pair of chromosomes whereas structural abnormality will have a missing, extra, turned upside down or another chromosomal part switching of an individual chromosome. Chromosomal abnormalities can be inherited from parents.
