Significant Figures or Numbers: A significant number can be defined as the total number of the digits in any number whose value is said to be uncertain.

(1) Conversion of decimal numbers to scientific notation as;     

If we want to convert any decimal point number to the respective scientific notation, then move the decimal point and place it to the left side of the first digit in the given number. The number of places moved by a decimal point goes to the power of ten. If we move the decimal point from left to right side then the power will be negative and when the decimal point is moved from right to left, then the power of ten will be positive.
