Working Before College

The author's purpose for writing this article was to inform college students and the public about opportunities to work while in college. Also it shows college students that working a full time job might not be the wisest thing to do while attending college full time. When this article was written, there was a new trend beginning to arise. In 2015, Georgetown University did a study of students who worked while in college. They found that 70 percent of students were employed while in college and 25 percent of those students are working full time while simultaneously going to college full time.      Jobs won’t only support teens for the things they want, but it can help benefit for the things they need. The first things teens think of for their future are going to college and getting their first car. But, let’s say there’s a well educated thirteen-year-old, raised in a low-income family, who has plans on going to college.

Employment can have a positive effect on my learning because it motivates me to do the best I can so that I can achieve my career goals. It would also benefit me because if I was employed with a part time job, I could have money that I would buy nice things with. I enjoy luxury things so by getting a snippet of what I can buy with the money I’m already earning can be a motivator for me to do well so that I can get a proper job and earn a lot more money which means having nicer things which I would enjoy and be my reward for doing well.

I intend on applying for a part time job in Lubbock in order to support any left over financial needs that I might have, as well as applying for financial aid. If any possible scholarships were to cover all of my tuition, I plan on having a part time job to ensure my financial stability. I am fully aware of how beneficial having a job will be for my recovery and education. I realize that having a job is an important component of being able to prove that I can remain a reliable individual. It will be a great opportunity for me to showcase my work ethic and accountability that will go hand in hand with my education. In this essay I will explain the causes and effects of why a high school student should or should not have a job during high school. Whether they should have a job while being in school or if they should not. Maybe they can’t focus on school so they should probably quit if they have one. They might need time for school work after school they should just focus on school.

In today’s society it’s becoming more common for teenagers to work, but with that comes the question of ‘Is working in high school beneficial?’. Working while in high school is the most beneficial opportunity a student can have. There is so much more to life than working but if you're not willing to work hard in the beginning then your whole life you will do nothing but work. I started working for Kistler Tire & Auto when I was 15 and maintained that job for almost two years. Working at a young age changes your personal appearance towards others and helps build a great responsibility that a lot of kids understand. I have an older sister, younger twin brothers, my mom and my dad who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. None of them could have been more proud of me for working hard for what I want at such a young age.

I, being employed with a part-time job, truly do believe that there is no wrong in having a part-time job while being a student. I honestly think that it is an awesome, great idea for students to have part-time jobs before they graduate from high school -- if they have the time and resources to do so. Work! Work! Work! Work! In today’s society, teenagers are seeking jobs to earn money even though they have school. Sometimes they are forced to get a job because they need to help their parents for their financial problems. It is very common to teenagers to get a job at a young age. It did not really change back then about children’s working at such a young age when they should be focusing on their education. Getting a job is everyone’s dream because they can earn money and get experiences. Avery Neumark quote says that, “ Never too early to start. Anything can happen any time,” this quote relates to teenagers because they need the head start to do something in life. Sometimes the job that they have pushes teenagers to do their best. Working early has both positive and negative impact to young adults. However, that is their only way to survive in this world is to get a part-time job to at least help them. Having a job help teenagers to be on time to avoid consequences, expansion of knowledge, and realize the reality of life.
