The shooting occurred at the Fruitvale train station on January 1st, 2009. At the station, a fight broke out in one of the trains and when the train stopped the fight started again outside of the train at one of the stops. While they were fighting on the train the BART officers were called. The officers came and arrested everyone that was in the fight. A guy named Oscar Grant was in the fight and was also arrested (Meyer). While Grant was being arrested by Officer Mehserle, he resisted the officer’s attempts. Since Grant was resisting he was pushed onto the ground on his stomach to be handcuffed. Johannes Mehserle was having trouble handcuffing Grant so the other BART officers helped him. When Grant was on the ground Mehserle was going to tase him since he would not stop resisting. When Mehserle thought he pulled out his TASER, he instead pulled out his gun. Mehserle accidentally shot Grant with his gun since he thought he pulled out his TASER (Bulwa).

On January 28, 1842, William Yarrington was born in Norwich, VT (VT in the Civil War). Growing up, he lived in a large family, which was probably hectic, but equally memorable. His father, Joel Yarrington, was a farmer, giving him the profound role as the head of their humble homestead (1850 Census). William’s mother, Sarah Jane Newcomb, was most likely a strict, but equally wonderful women, who spent her busy days housekeeping and taking care of her many children, as many women did back then (1850 Census). These children, Kate, Harvey, Clarissa, Merrill, and Sarah, were William’s siblings (1850 & 1860 Census). Every Sunday my mother would force me into my church dress with the itchy lace, and white ankle-socks with the big, puff bow. We would walk into St. John A.M.E. Church and sit in age-old pews, singing Negro Spirituals that I had not yet learned to appreciate. Growing up, church consisted of sermons, praise, and family. For years I would automatically participate in the church activities and youth-group service projects, taking the many lectures about education a grain of salt. However, I never understood the true meaning of service and the importance of education until I learned about the history of Huntsville, Alabama. The founder of St. John African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church, and the founder of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU), William Hooper Councill, truly exemplified what it meant to serve his community.
He supported his suggestion by claiming that stop-and-frisk “worked incredibly well ” in New York City to reduce crime rates. His claim is disturbing in light of evidence that stop-and-frisk procedures enable police officers to discriminate against minority groups. Experts also disagree with President Trumps’s assessment that stop-and-frisk procedures are responsible for declining crime rates . In 2015, William Bratton, who was responsible for implementing stop-and-frisk procedures in 1990, conceded that stop-and-frisk is “not a significant factor in the crime rate of [New York City] ”. Experts instead tied the decline in New York City’s crime rates to larger national and global trends . In fact, crime rates were already in decline before stop-and-frisk procedures were even implemented
An analysis by the NYCLU shows that innocent New Yorkers have been subjected to police stops and and street interrogations more than 4 million times since 2002, and the Black and Latino communities are the target of these approaches. Even though the New York Police Department are cutting the crime activities by 29%, other large cities are getting better results without using the stop and frisk policy. Martial Arts Instructor, Tauren Murphy believes that the NYPD uses stop and frisk to cover it’s real intent. Murphy states “The vast majority of the time, it’s a way to harass young men of color. The shootings are unfortunate, but there should be more police in the community, working with the community and not just showing when there is trouble.” Residents of Bronx believe that if there are just more police around in general then the numbers of shooting will go down because no one is going to risk getting caught when there are so many officers around. Many people have said that they would not even go to the police for help because they distrust them that much, this “proactive policing” that is going on is just driving a deeper wedge between the police and the community. Ray Kelly, police commissioner says that “about 70 percent to 75 percent of the people described as committing violent crimes-- assault,

My most favorite trip was to Yankton. We stay for five days and we had a blast. We ate tons of burgers and pop, but there was more that we ate. We went on walks during the day and did fun things like frisbee golf. But those are just some of the stuff that we did.
The ‘Police Accountability Act’ was introduced in 1991 but never enacted by Congress.
