As the technology advances, more utilities become available to us that make our lives easier. This correlates to the short essay “Why Computers Don't Belong in the Classroom” by Clifford Stoll. Stoll argues that the high usage of technology in schools gives students the incentive have weak thinking skills and not focus in class. I agree with the argument of Clifford Stoll as the usage of technology simply motivates students to procrastinate, rely heavily on online resources and lose interest in class activities. Technology provides a distraction for students as they would rather watch TV or play video games. Clifford Stoll argues, “If kids watch too much TV, why bring multimedia video systems into schools.” Stoll implies that the schools are allowing students to expect some sort of multimedia in their classes. Showing videos during class may help some of the visual learners, but most students consider this as a free-time and not focus. Furthermore, Stoll states that teachers show videos during class due to their lack of information. Providing and allowing technology in class enables students to access various databases online and eventually they “... often take the short cut, copying what's on line.” For instance, a teacher may assign a reading for homework and the student would, instead, read a summary online. This would lead to a student getting low grade on their exams due to the lack of knowledge of the specific details related to their assignments.
