In an Information Age, we can easily solve mathematical equations with the use of calculator instead of solving it manually or using abacus which is limited only to some countries, we can use computers to research almost everything, there is also the mobile phones which makes us connected to each other to talk about the incoming projects, assignments and to take pictures of our lessons instead of taking down notes. Although there are many advantages of using Technology, there are also some risks that the students may encounter. Abusive use of Cell phones, Computers and the Internet may waste too much time because instead of studying they might just play games, chat with their friends, browse the web that is not related to their study points, another is that not all the information we got from the web is accurate, there are some information that are inaccurate or biased information since it can be edited by other and may give us wrong information.
Statement of the Problem 1. What is the importance of technology to students? 2. What are the commonly used gadgets used by the students? 3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Technology to students?
Assumptions of the Study 1. The use of Modern technology does not affect the students in their studies. 2. The use of Modern technology does have an effect to
Overall, technology is a great enchancer of learning if applied and used correctly. Students use it habitually, and arw often side-tracked by it. Thinking for one's self is slowly disappearing, due to the fact of information overload. One should always consider if the benefits of technology will outweigh the negatives, especially with all the challenges on life. One may be without their phone, but one will always have their
In the article “Technology Changing how students learn, Teachers Say” many different surveys and experiments were constructed to see what the response were toward technology changing the way we think. As stated “roughly 75 percent of 2,462 teachers surveyed said that the Internet and search engines had a “mostly positive” impact on student research skills” (Richtel). This means that majority of the teacher do agree that the internet is making a positive effect on the children. Using technology in the educational field is a different approach on how the student my able to learn or grasp the whole content of that topic or subject. The internet doesn’t only help out with the student learning but it is already help the teacher. Through the internet they can exam the progress of class by averaging out the online homework or test that may be given out to the class.
As the world is changing in terms of technology so does the effect of technology
Remember when you had to bring a book to all your classes? Well not anymore, now everything can be easily accessed without having to carry two or three books at once just to make it to class on time. Now with technology in our normal everyday life our world is evolving with each passing moment, some have grown to dislike, or even hate, technology but alas, many have fallen in love with it.
To begin, many people around the world are victims of technology, and that caused a lot of problems to them including constant destruction. Students are the ones who use technology the most, and that caused some problems. As Schaffhauser reports, “Students are more distracted than ever. They tend to check their digital devices, particularly, their smartphones, an average of 11.43 times during class for non-classroom activities. A solid 12 percent do texting, emailing, checking the time or other activities in class more than 30 times a day.”(Schaffhauser) In making this comment, nowadays our society especially students are not aware the destruction of technology. As Schaffhauser mention students are more distracted than ever and this is true because we see students using technology while their teachers are talking to them. As a result, the failing rate of students
Many people claim that technology enhances students learning and teacher’s ability to educate. I agree that computers benefit student’s learning, but I also believe that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. While students are able to write faster and understand concepts in a new way, they are risking their health when they use it too much. I am not saying that schools and communities should outlaw use of screens, I just think that people should make sure to not overuse it and ruin their health.
Though there are some positive effects, the adverse impact of technology on education has been extraordinary. The technology community has worked hard to bring useful technology into our classrooms, all with good intentions to broaden our knowledge. With these good intentions also came about unwanted side effects such as distraction and disruption in the classroom. I can clearly remember many of my teachers yelling at us to put our cell phones, iPods, and iTouch phones away especially during lecture and exams. The yelling was not without just cause, students cheated with their devices along with updating their Facebook pages during class too.
However, some would say that within education, the use of technology can influence students to cheat or take the easy way out on their assignments. “Students today can easily access essays, reports, class notes, tests, etc. online, making it that much more difficult for teachers to know if the work their students hand in is original” (Ronan). This dilemma interferes with teenagers processing new information. The Internet is a great tool; however, teens may rely too heavily on it, and worse, believe everything they see. I believe that the internet can be a great source to gain more knowledge, however, one needs to acknowledge how to effectively use this tool to benefit them.
The final result of using digital devices during school hours is not a good one. Students can cheat more easily, which means that they are not preparing for the future and society.
The evolution of technology has changed society in both positive and negative ways. People all over the world use and benefit from modern technology. Technology has simplified the access to many tools people need in education, medicine, communication, transportation, etc. However, using it too often has its drawbacks as well. In most cases, the time of finishing projects is cut by more than half with the help of technology. Many people do not realize that technology has its negative affects society as well, and its rapid advances has changed life for worse in a number of different ways.
The present era has progressed not only in terms of education but also in the department of information technology. People usually resort into using technology for a faster way of communication, to progress in work and in education. Some colleges and universities have implemented the different kinds of technology for purposes of developing a student’s skills and abilities. “Technology is seen in several forms from the simple functions of a calculator used in mathematics to the most complicated computers and technological gadgets” (Flannagan L.J., pg. 07). However, alongside the positive advantages of technology and advanced computer system, there is also a negative side or disadvantages causing problems that need to be solved. While the “ideal goal for educators is to implement technology in the classroom and see definite positive affects on student achievement” (Flannagan L.J., pg. 09). We are living in a world filled with high tech gadgets in the current time like ipads, social media such as twitter, facebook, tumbr and google.
Furthermore, the internet damages students’ interpersonal skills. Social media and instant messaging are major communication tools for students, which lead them to have few opportunities to talk in person. Recently, a multi-functional cell phone can replace a computer with internet access. There is a study in England that found that almost forty-percent of students surveyed said they could not live without their cell phones (Birdwell, 2007). Also, nearly ten-percent of students said that using cell phones caused them to lose their relationships and jobs (2007). Besides, through online education, students cannot get face-to-face instruction from professors and also lose their chances to communicate with classmates.
The first benefit that technology has in the classroom is the ability for students and educators to have any information that they need at their fingertips. When trying to teach a concept teachers can refer their students to specific web searches, games, or other resources that can be found on the internet. In the same way though having instant gratification through being able to look up anything on the internet can affect the way that students learn. Instead of doing work on their own students have the ability to type problem into a search engine and it will likely give them the answer for their
Technology has taken us to unimaginable highs and it all starts in the classroom. Millennials are considers the dumbest generation because of our “dependency” on technology, but previous generations misunderstand our use of technology when we are just being productive with getting information. Also generations prior to ours never experienced this amount of technology in their time at school so to them they feel as if we are just being lazy to open up a book like they had too. With being able to make technology easier for us in the classroom it helps to become an overall better student. In the classroom, technology is very useful helping students with their school work. Also helps students connect with each other on assignments or for projects and
Technology can help students in all areas of study. Students need to be able to use this technology since, “Currently and in the near future, it is understood that students need to acquire more autonomous skills of ‘information gathering, analysis, and display’” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. In “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” another positive effect is given “technology effect stressed by many teachers was enhancement of student self esteem” (“Effects,” 2004, p. 2).
