Rush Dunlap Mrs. Gaston Pre-AP English 15 March 2024 Responsibility in Romeo and Juliet In William Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo and Juliet there are many people that are responsible for their deaths. There are three people that are most responsible, Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence. Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own decisions that they made that were rash and irresponsible. Friar Lawrence is responsible for encouraging this behavior. Romeo played the biggest role in their deaths because of how reckless he was about everything. The reader can see how rash and quick his mind can change when he says “Did my heart love till now,” (Romeo 1.5.59). He said this after he went on and on about being in love with Rosaline. Romeo also shows his lust when he says “Sin from my lips the sin they have taken,”(Romeo 1.5.107). …show more content…
At the end of the play, he makes the most rash decision of all, killing himself after saying “I defy you stars”(Romeo 5.1.24) trying to defy fate after seeing Juliet dead. This was very rash because he could have just waited two minutes and she would have woken up. Juliet also played a significant role in their deaths. Juliet was young and naive; the reader can see this in the quote from Capulet, “My child is yet a stranger in this world she hath not seen fourteen years,”(Romeo 1.2). After she sees Romeo for the first time, she says “Go ask him his name”. – If he be married, My grave is like to be my wedding bed,” (Romeo 1.5.134). The reader can tell that she is very lustful and irresponsible. She also said that she did not want to get married yet and that she wanted to wait. When she says, "Then I'll be brief." Romeo says in the book on page (206) “let me have a dram of poison, such soon speeding year as will disperse itself through all the veins, That the life weary taker may fall dead”. Therefore Romeo played a huge part in the death by not knowing the plan and taking poison to kill

Abram Morgan Ms Powell English 9 March 18, 2024 Who is Responsible There are many factors at fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet. The parents are most fit for responsibility. If Juliet's parents were more understanding and less demanding, they could have tried to work it out more efficiently than threatening to disown Juliet. Also, if it weren't for the family feud, there would have been no reason for Juliet to fake kill herself to be with Romeo. Juliet and her father didn’t have a good relationship with each other.
Despite popular debate as to who caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, many might argue that it’s the Capulets or Juliet’s fault, and are they right? What led to both Romeo and Juliet’s deaths was mostly their family and their beef with each other; however, what led to Romeo and Juliet’s deaths was someone who had made poor decisions and had love issues. Before entering the tragedies of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, I believed that love alone would shape the two star-crossed lovers' fate. Little did I know, their fate was unexpectedly set in place by the wise Friar Lawrence and Nurse. While reflecting upon the causes of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, I realized that Friar Lawrence and the Nurse influenced many immense decisions that had a significant impact on Romeo and Juliet’s fate. Therefore, Friar Lawrence and the Nurse are significantly to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s ultimate deaths because of their impulsive decisions and flawed guidance. Without these two factors provided by Friar Lawrence and the Nurse, the fate of these star-crossed lovers could have been different.
Parental figures should have their child’s best interests in mind. However, parents should also consider their children’s thoughts and feelings. In the story Romeo and Juliet, the nurse tells Juliet to get married to Paris even though she knows about Romeo. Friar Lawrence abandons Juliet with the dead body of the lover of her life to save himself. In William Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the nurse and Friar Lawrence are ultimately responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they are unable to comprehend the perspectives of the children and inability to put the children before themselves.

In the story of Romeo and Juliet, the young couple’s unfortunate demise is a result of their imprudent choices. This action occurs on page 1004 when Romeo says, “I’ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own.” In this quote, Romeo agrees to go to the Capulet’s opulent ball. The consequence of going to this ball is simply that Romeo meets and falls in love with Juliet which starts the whole ordeal of the story.
Normally love stories have happy endings, but not in Shakspere. Romeo and Juliet imagined having a happy ending but did not incorporate the problematic character flaws around them. Romeo and Juliet is a story of two young lovers from rival wealthy houses the two lovers marry in secret, but when Juliet fakes her death, the letter meant to inform Romeo did not arrive in time causing the tragic ending. In Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence and Juliet both have fatal flaws that lead to the fated demise of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence's fatal flaw is his short-sided planning, leading to Romeo and Juliet's fatal demise.
Anvitha Shrijith Ms. Walsh English II 12 March 2024 Romeo and Juliet Romeo, the male heir to the house of Montague, is responsible for the majority of the tragic consequences in Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is a play that occurs in Verona in the fourteenth century. As you will soon see, Romeo in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, is to be held responsible for the deaths of Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, Romeo, and Juliet since he kickstarted the whole thing by crashing the Capulet’s party, being too impulsive in love, and killing a lot of people, including himself, which led to the death of Juliet. Romeo crashing the Capulets’ party is, in a way, the reason for the whole plot to play out and in turn, leading to many deaths.
