What Is Abraham Lincoln A Role Model

Lincoln did alot in his short stint as president, he really made an impact and changed America forever. Lincoln had alot of strenghts and little weakness. He showed his great leader ship, through the civil war and was able, to keep his country together.

Abraham Lincoln reminds me of Caroline Ferriday from Lilac Girls. Both characters were real people who dedicated their lives to helping others. One similarity is that they both worked to help the minorities. Another similarity is that they both succeed in helping others even though it took many years. They are also both similar in the fact that they both were determined, they felt there was an injustice and they wanted to fix it. One difference is that Caroline met with the people she was helping while Lincoln never met each individual person. Another difference is that Lincoln never saw the end result of his determination while Caroline was able to celebrate with those she helped. Going from being raised in a low income family to the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln gained much respect. He was one of the most well know presidents of the United States. He gave many powerful speeches that left the crowd astonished. Lincoln was a very honest person and later became known as Honest Abe. Abraham Lincoln became known worldwide after leading the US through its only Civil War, and by doing everything in his power to free the slaves.

He became very close to his step-mother who encouraged him to learn to read although he received his formal education later in life. Over the years he pursued many jobs, sometimes failing, but he got right back up and tried again. He will always be known for his honesty thus giving him the name “Honest Abe”. Lincoln worked his way up in the political field by being in the Illinois General Assembly, United States House of Representatives and on to the Presidency of the United States. Many southern Democrats feared that with the election of Lincoln slavery would be abolished and this lead to southern states seceding from the Union.

When you think Abe Lincoln you think the 15th amendment, the president that served through the civil war and the man that freed the slaves. Abraham was more than just the man from the civil war era. He was from Kentucky. He was a Kentuckian.

Not only is he one of the most prominent leaders of the Civil War but an early influence and catalyst on the later Civil Rights Movement.
