Abraham Lincoln's Accomplishments

He created the idea to everyone that he won't just be another president he wanted to make a big impact on the United States. After his election in 1861 and one presidency seven southern states succeeded from the Union. They became Confederate states. Lincoln wanted to show featuring he meant good things as a president. He wanted everyone to know that we are friends not enemies. When the southern states when I come back to the union Lincoln had no choice but to bring down his cheeks is set at Fort Sumter, he called this the "People's Protest." We can want to peace and equality but if no one would listen to him, he needed to make a bigger statement saying we are all one and we all have freedom and equality. The first thing Lincoln did as president was attempt to reunite the country, even after facing backlash from the South. During his presidency, he led many slaves to freedom, yet stayed neutral at the beginning of it in an attempt to see both sides. While his neutrality left, his morality stayed, and he ended slavery with the belief that Americans deserve happiness and freedom, as stated in the Constitution. Just like Wooden, Abraham Lincoln “developed an unflattering reputation,” but continued to do what he believed was best for the people he led (Passage Paragraph 2). His bad reputation came from upsetting pro-slavery supporters by removing their free labor, and upsetting the people in the South by leading them even after not being in their ballots.

Lincoln served as a great president who took on challenges head on. The biggest issue he faced was the Civil War. The Civil War was a conflict about slavery and expanding it. Lincoln’s goal was to gradually put an end to slavery however, the South did not agree with this and decided to (according to the government) rebel against the country. Doing this meant the beginning of a war where a country would fight itself. It was the North against the South. While the North was abiding to the government’s regulations they had to fight the South. After all the battles of fighting each other the Civil War went down into American History as one of their bloodiest wars. As a threat to the South Lincoln ordered the South to give in and join the Union again. He warned them that if this did not happen, he would free the slaves under their custody. He gave them a time limit for this but the South did not listen nor did they give in. As a result, Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation.

Abraham Lincoln wasn’t alone on his belief that the slaves were being mistreated and a change needed to be made. Jefferson Davis was also on Abraham Lincoln’s side. Davis said to the Confederate Congress, “... several millions of human being of an inferior race, peaceful and contented laborers in their sphere, are doomed to extermination, while at the same time they are encouraged to a general assassination of their masters…”

Abraham Lincoln was faced many of the country’s issues. He wanted to make sure that country had peace and togetherness no matter what. Finally a civil war broke out between the north and south states. He battled through the war and made the announcement that, a country would not be able to exist if it is half free and half slave. Once the war was won he was able to keep the country united.

The time of the speech was towards the end of the civil war, when the North and the South where still fighting after a bitter 4 year war. The battle of Gettysburg had already been fought and Lincoln had given the distinguished Gettysburg address just a few months before. He spoke of freedom, devotion, and the ideals for which he believed the Union stood. Over the years this country has seen many great presidents, but when you think of the presidents who truly defined what it meant to be a great leader three names come to mind, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. These great men showed the rest of the presidents to foolow what a great leader looked like. But only one can crowned as the best so, these are 3 reasons why I believe that Abraham Lincoln was the best president this great nation has ever seen. The first reason why I believe that Mr. Lincoln was truly such a great president is because he declared the Emancapation Proclamation, this stated that all slaves are to be released and that slavery will be illegal in the United States from now until forever, hence why his name was "The Great Emancipator".

Throughout the course of the history of the United States that took place through the various centuries that passed, there have been leaders that made it their mission to shine a light on this nation. Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson have all been leaders of this country that made a significant impact that continues to carry on to this day. Though they are great examples of true leaders of this country, Abraham Lincoln was the president that truly stood strong for this country.

Abraham Lincoln demonstrates a good amount of qualities that made an admired and inspirational leader. Abraham lincoln was able to keep his goal in mind while maintaining his great personality. He was able to listen to different point of views and not regards anyone’s opinions and ideas because simply he was the president. Another great leadership ability that Lincoln possessed was his ability to appoint the right people for the right jobs in his Cabinet. Even though they were some of the greatest minds of his time, some of his Cabinet members were also some of his biggest political adversaries. Through his great leadership, he was able to assemble this group and to pull them together to make it work. Lincoln also had the ability to make a mistake, learn from it and then move on, creating an environment of learning in his administration. Also, when the administration was successful, Lincoln was willing to share the credit with his administration, not taking all the credit for himself. This ability can be a great motivator, since it gives people a sense of accomplishment (Moreton, 2008).
