When exploring my values, I found that there are quite a few things that are truly important to me. The following values are essential in my life: Achievement, attitude, awareness, caring, commitment, compassion, competence, courage, creativity, family, forgiveness, friendships, future generations, generosity, health, honest, humility, humor/fun, independence, integrity, making a difference, patient, personal fulfillment, personal & professional growth, safety, success, trust, well-being, and wisdom.

As we find ourselves held prisoner to four years of constraints, deadlines, and all-nighters, high school can be whirlwind of trials and tribulations. As emphasis is placed on academic excellence and social involvement, many students lose themselves in the mix, lacking self-respect.

Kindness gets you trust and companionship. My second most important value is honesty. Honesty shows you are loyal and are not to do wrong by lying. The truth is always the best path even if it does not seem like it. A child who is honest is a child who is pure.

One of the most important tasks that teachers have as educators is to teach students about the importance of respect. For elementary students, respect can be defined as how a student treats another student or how one feels about another student. It is imperative for students to know that they can have respect for each other, as well as for themselves. Teaching respect at such a young age can be as simple as the teacher modeling what respect is and why it is important to respect one another. By the time students reach sixth grade, they will be able to not only respect each other's viewpoints, but understand the reasons behind them.

My first fundamental value is loyalty. To me, loyalty means being true to your word, giving respect and providing a reliable support system. The roots of this value stem from the moment I was born. My mom, 20 and my dad, 22 were both overwhelmed with responsibilities as they handed me from my aunt, to uncle, to grandparent and sometimes, to the next-door neighbor. These individuals would watch over me while my parents went to work, school, and various other obligations. My family members sacrificed hours out of their lives, altered their schedules, and spent money to benefit my life and the lives of my parents. During my first few years on earth, my parents got married, received college degrees, and consistently put money in the bank, which they would not have been able to accomplish without the help of their family members.

Most people go through life and always hear about the word respect, but they don’t know what it means. Respect is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person. There are things in life you need to hold in respect. Respect for yourself, respect for others, and respect for property. Respect is taught to people everywhere and it is even taught to them in their religions. Respect is the very aspect that keeps everything in your life.

Another category where respect is severely lacking is between friends and peers in regards to privacy. You will quickly discover that rumors both true and false spread very quickly. Most of the time it is unintentional, but when everyone tells that one close friend some information about someone else everyone ends up knowing. This can come in the most innocent forms, if you have a close friend whom you trust deeply then you know you can share with them. Although, when this occurs that close friend has someone whom they trust deeply and etc. Before you know it everything has spread like wildfire. Initially, the top three values I believe that are the most important are; order, equal opportinity, and compassion. I believe that it is important to have order so that everyone does not do whatever they want, whenever they want. There needs to be rules that people need to abide by so that everything does not turn into chaos. Furthermore, equal opportunity is important so that everyone has a chance at succeeding. It if not right for a certain gender or ethnicity get to succeed and no one else gets to. Likewise, it is important to have compassion. Judgmental is one word I am not usually depicted as; however, some behaviors I am impotent to ignore without being disappointed and injudicious toward any of the persons involved. Losing my respect is not an easy task, this is because I am one to put effort into understanding why one behaved certain ways and what their consequences would have been if they did or did not undergo such actions. Three core values I feel I hold are family, work/life balance, Relationship. In ways these three go hand and hand. Having adaptability, empathy and harmony as a few of my strengths helps in all my values. Family to me means a lot. I have a husband and three children that mean the most to me. I express my feelings to them through hugs, kisses, and I voice my appreciation to them. Growing up I saw the value of families. My role models as a child were my grandparents and my parents they were always there for one another, but as I get older I realize that it’s not just my close family but all the people in my life that I call family that I find are helping me understand my values more. Has I got older and married I gained more family and their families began to grow as well. Each new person brings so my to my life and I am very grateful. English is the only spoken language I know, but as I am learning more about my family background I want to learn different languages. I just found out with the start of this class, that my family line goes back to 1718 to France. As I read more I want to learn more and visit places that meant a lot to my family.
