Top Three Values Analysis

Initially, the top three values I believe that are the most important are; order, equal opportinity, and compassion. I believe that it is important to have order so that everyone does not do whatever they want, whenever they want. There needs to be rules that people need to abide by so that everything does not turn into chaos. Furthermore, equal opportunity is important so that everyone has a chance at succeeding. It if not right for a certain gender or ethnicity get to succeed and no one else gets to. Likewise, it is important to have compassion. I personally believe it would be terrible if no one cared about anyone else besides themselves. People need to understand other individuals view in order to get a clear understanding of the world. We do not all revolve around ourselves, we revolve around each other. Therefore, we need to be there for others in their time of need so that they can be there for us in our time of need. Furthermore, if I am able to identify why an author hold a certain assumption or value I can then understand why the author supported their conclusion with the reasons that they provided. Thus, allowing myself to determine whether or not the reasons are that are used to support their stance or logical or not. Without doubt, understanding assumptions and values allows you to better understand the text, as well as, the writer’s stance. Finally, three ways that I can identify assumptions and values in someone’s writing or argument is by investigating the author’s background. I could also ask “why do the consequences of the author’s position seem so important to him or her?” As well, I could use reverse role-playing and take the opposite position. In all, no matter what technique I use I should be able to correctly identify the author’s assumptions and
