Violent Video Games

Since video games have been introduced, video games have been accused of contributing too many atrocities, and acts of violence. News outlets paint video games as being a source of which some acts of violence happen. Yes, violent video games have become more popular, meanwhile becoming controversial, but still there exist no links between aggression and video games. The University of Bologna says that “owning videogames does not in fact seem to have negative effects on aggressive human behavior” (Koffler par.7). Meanwhile, news outlets keep on missing the point on how beneficial video games are. Video games do not contribute to violence, can be educational, and they can improve us in different ways.

Of course, when playing games, you can use a key mapper in order to control the inputs. You can use the xbox or playstation controllers on the PC, or even the Wii motion controls with enough modification.

Although I would have been interested in conducting a poll of the publics opinion regarding the use of violent video games and their connection to mass shootings I was not able to conduct the research. However, for this paper I chose to conduct a literature analysis to see what research has been conducted and to seek out gaps and themes in this research.

The controller best represents the gaming community because it is what allows us to take control of the virtual character. Without it the community wouldn’t be able to interact with the game and give us the options to choose how a story progresses. Some games give you the freedom to choose multiple paths and write your own story and we are able to do this because of the controller. Without the controller we would see another movie with paths already chosen for us.

Since the first iteration of the Nintendo game console, video games have become integral part of our entertainment experience. In the last 20 years the improvements in video technology has only bolstered the appeal of video games, making them one of the top forms of entertainment for all ages and genders. The amount of people playing video games continues to rise at an alarming rate. Video games are a great way to alleviate stress, they allow you to relax, escape from reality and just decompress from life.

Before digging deep into this topic, one has to look into how video games has changed in the pass thirty years. The differences between now and then: the genres of video games, graphics, and how they were played. Video games have come a long way in the past few decades. Everything within the games are more detailed than before; a player has a much more immersive experience than before. Likewise, the GamePad screen is used in a couple of ways. The most basic of which is as a secondary display of what is happening on the television. The scene inside the game may lead to real things happen, especially for children, who are eager to experience it. Do violent video games make kids more violent? Of course not, just because your kid plays games like "Saints Row 4" doesn't mean they're going to shoot up their school. Even if kids talk more violent they're never going to actually do what they say unless they are literally mentally ill. I'm legally considered a minor and I play fairly violent video games more often than not, and I don't want to rebel against the law or something dumb like that. In the current year games like GTA5 are very popular. Kids now are being influenced by annoying sell out youtubers that play violent games for money, swear, and call everyone who doesn't agree with them an actual Nazi. This kind of behavior is now considered tough or whatever, therefore kids now are saying more violent things even know they're not going to do anything they say they are.

Most of us have certainly pondered on the thought if video games truly create violent citizens, I personally believe that video games do not what so ever. One must distinguish this topic accurately and consider learning to differentiate and not have a biased or radical opinion. There have been many attempts from a number of different people who have tried to give a bad name to video games due to the simulations and realness and say that video games will create a negative environment for anyone who plays them, especially in children. Enthusiasts of video games have spent decades asserting that there is no underlying link between playing violent titles and engaging in the violent real-world behavior.
