Violence In The Outsiders

There are two conflicts that are mainly presented in The Outsiders. First, Ponyboy feels unloved by his brother Darry. Ponyboy feels this way when he’s walking home from the movies and is yelled at for walking home alone when nobody would go with him. Darry states many times to Ponyboy “use your head.” Also in the novel, Johnny goes through man vs fate because he can’t escape his death. He believes that his death was for a great purpose and that the kids live have greater value than his, but he still doesn’t want to die.

The Outsiders message is about “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” It explains that nothing good can go on forever and nothing young can last forever. It tells you about how and why we should enjoy what we have and keep and cherish everything we have to its maximum limit. Why shouldn’t we cherish what we have? Why do we need more? Why can't we be equally treated with same amount of things such as money and houses? That is the real question. We have that to this very day. In The Outsiders, their lives are exactly like this. They have their awesome rich people lives and the poor have unhappy lives. Some of each gang just want to be normal, the same, or similar at least. But their money splits them up. The Outsiders, made in 1983, is based on the original book made in 1967, The Outsiders. The movie copied the same plot of the book heavily, as it still portrays the same main character, Ponyboy Curtis (played by Thomas C. Howell), a fourteen year old boy living with his two brothers. This one and a half hour film shows Ponyboy’s life as a greaser, as he experiences the positive and negative sides of his family life style, and questions the benefits of the greaser’s biggest enemy; the Socials.

It was only two gangs, three deaths, and many injuries, but the bloody, death defying, life changing brawl is what ended all of the chaos.In book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton Ponyboy learns a lot about being caring. In this novel two groups called the Socs and the Greasers fight each other continuously. This leads them to unexpected fights and deaths, causing things to not go as planned.Ponyboy is caring because he is thoughtful, trustworthy, and brave.

In the book the Outsiders, Ponyboy faces many conflicts, some had carried more significance than others. The author of this novel is S.E. Hinton. The main characters of this novel are Ponyboy Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, and Darrel Curtis (Darry). The Outsiders is novel about the wars between the two social classes formally known as Socs (The higher class/richer people) and the Greasers (The lower class/poorer blue collar workers.) This novel however is told from the perspective of the Greasers, more specifically a young boy at the bottom of a small gang or family of greasers. In the novel The Outsiders the character Ponyboy experience multiple conflicts with his family, his friends, and the law.

The violence comes from two different groups. The greasers and the SOCS are always competing for land or money. The SOCS fight for the SOCS, and the greasers fight for the greasers. No matter what, they are loyal to each other and won't let each other down. Violence takes up most of the Outsiders, almost ruining it.

The quote “Conflict creates action, and action defines character” means how a simple conflict will lead to an action and depending on how the action is dealt with and is how people will “look” at the character. Conflict means a controversy between characters. The Outsiders is narrated by Ponyboy and his point of view, he is fourteen and apart of the Greasers. Darrel is 20, and Sodapop is 16, The three of them are brothers, they recently lost their parents in a car accident. In the beginning and in the end Ponyboy describes Paul Newman’s characteristics and how “perfect” Ponyboy thinks Paul Newman’s life is.

Have you ever thought about how life would be like without your family and friends? Throughout this novel, The Outsiders, By S.E. Hinton, three brother share many common conflicts between each other. Every brother and sister have been in fights or arguments, but after everything, you still love them. Darry, Soda, and Pony have changed dramatically throughout the novel.

The Outsiders movie which was released on March 25, 1983, is a American drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola .It is a crime thriller and is adapted from a novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton .The Film was shot on location in Tulsa, Oklahoma and set in 1965 .The story of this movie revolves around the conflict between the two different social groups ,which is the rich and the poor. It is a class versus class conflict which gives rise to a physical conflict between the Greasers and the Socs .I feel there are physical fights throughout the story between the two groups due to enculturation. The native culture that is transmitted from one generation to another among the Greasers is the reason for their limitations.

In the novel, Ponyboy couldn’t even walk a short distance home without getting jumped by the Socials. This idea is heartbreaking to realize that a child can’t safely walk around his or hers neighborhood without being harmed in some areas. The novel shows a numerous amount of young adults being killed or harmed due to gang violence. For example, Johnny Cade killed Bob Sheldon in self-defense, which was devastating to his family, friends, and girlfriend. The author also represents a positive side to violence at the end of the novel. The rumble between the two groups without weapons, helped end the aggression and hatred between them. This uncovered the common interest that they shared and allowed them to relate to each other on an emotional and physical level.

Violence//Outsiders Do you think of yourself as a violent person? If you were in the novel The Outsiders, you would probably be violent. People used weapons, got into fights, and got arrested. The characters in Outsiders got in fights and used weapons. They use switchblades to protect themselves during the novel.

The Outsiders display how adversity can help people find the real meaning of actions. Ponyboy thinks that Darry doesn’t care about him and believes he’s too strict as said in this passage “Me and Darry just don't dig each other. I could never please him… He never hollered at Sodapop, even when Soda dropped out of school or got tickets for speeding.

In light of the comparative study between Growing Up Asian in Australia and a novel of choice, I have chosen The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton as my novel. The Outsiders is a classic dramatic novel that was first published in 1967 and was set in Oklahoma, USA. The novel is a coming-of-age story that focus around a gang of young boys called the greasers, and is narrated by Ponyboy Curtis, the main protagonist. The major conflicts that appeared in the novel were man vs man, man vs society and man vs self( internal conflict).

The main theme of The Outsiders is violence does not solve social conflict. In the beginning of the book Ponyboy thinks that violence is the solution to the Socs, but later through Johnny stabbing Bob, and finally making amends with Darry, Ponyboy figures out that you can’t solve social conflict with violence. This theme was relevant to the real world in Hinton’s time and still is today.

I am discussing the book the outsiders by S.E Hinton and analyzing the impact violence has on the main characters. My main aim of this essay is to assess and demonstrating the emotional and physical damage to the characters Johnny, bob and Dally caused by violence.
