I have been a Girl Scout for sixteen years, and I will continue to be one for the rest of my
life. I love being a Girl Scout and am proud of my lifetime membership. I am grateful both for
my experiences as a child and for the leadership growth I have achieved through three summers
working at Camp Tanasi. Though the summer is over, I want to continue to work for GSCSA
and I believe I am a great fit for your recruitment team.
As one of the Connections Unit Leaders this summer, I facilitated and helped create a
wide variety of activities around each week’s theme. It was my job to take the initial idea for
each day’s activity and make it work. I am proud to say that my campers had a great time!

I kept the different committees up to date on
all club matters and made sure that documents and resources were organized and easy to find. I
was instrumental in recruiting students to join our team, particularly during our first semester.
From reviewing the club constitution to organizing the radio's email inbox, I took pride in
helping Black Ring Radio run smoothly and efficiently.
In addition, I have experience operating in a more traditional professional setting. This
April I presented at Agnes Scott College’s Spring Annual Research Conference with my project
group from my Environmental and Public Health Communication class. We presented a
summary and evaluation of our campaign to increase campus recycling that we ran the previous
month. I also served on the Student Green Fee Fund Committee this year where I attended
Student Government Executive meetings with the committee chair to gain approval to use the
fund for our 2015 proposal.

For example, the Rainbow Mountain Moms held a “Girlfriend Conference” on campus on July 15, 2017, and provided a field trip for the clients to go to Golden Flake on August 15, 2017. Both of these activities were good and
Kayla- The family day had arrived, and Dawci and I arrived early to set up in anticipation of our portion of the fire safety event. We set up each activity and when the firefighters came, I led Bruce and his crew to large group to begin his presentation. The children were very enthusiastic during this portion and were happily participating with Bruce's questions, especially when they were asked to help him with his presentation. Bruce then wrapped up his presentation and I led the preschoolers outside to participate in the fire engine tour.

At the beginning of the year I helped set up for the chapter banquet and helped do opening ceremonies with the conduct team. This was when I was elected chapter reporter.

That really meant a lot to me, so after I was elected I wanted to make sure I did everything right. One of my first challenges was actually deciding whether or not to go to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. Our FFA goes on that trip every other year. I went to the last National Convention my freshman year just for fun, but this year I felt that I had a duty to go along and be a leader for our chapter by being involved. The problem is, last year I was on the varsity volleyball team. National Convention was at the same time that regional volleyball games were starting. I didn’t know what to choose – the volleyball team that I loved and had been committed to for three months already, or the organization that chose me to be their leader? I really didn’t know what to do. I finally chose to go with the FFA to Indianapolis. It would give me a chance to practice my leadership skills and get to know our FFA chapter better. I still felt like I was letting my team and coach down, but I felt more committed to FFA.
One major controversy in effect today is whether girls should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America or should there be a distinct separation between the girls and boys. In the article, “Boy Scouts Face Renewed Push to Let Girls Join the Ranks” by David Crary, several girls across the nation have took it upon themselves to try and join the Boy Scouts of America. Some believe that girls should be able to join in order to gain the same scouting experience as the boys in the organization. Others including myself, believe that if the girl scouts aren’t happy with their scouting, they should take the initiative to make a difference in their own community.

I’m a former Girl Scout and committed many years to this organization. From being a daisy (kindergarten) to becoming a senior (9th grade), I did and still greatly service my community. I have also been a part of Grace Teenshop Inc., which teaches young girls how to maintain good moral character and be a role model for youth to follow. In high school, I’ve competed in softball and track and field events where I’ve thrown shot put, javelin, and discus for 2 years. I also joined my high school organization named DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) which prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. As I became a student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore I have become a member
Perhaps the most important experience during my more formative years was my experience with YMCA camping. I was a camper,
One of the most prominent issues in the American society is not an economic or social problem, but the lack of recycling in America and the effect it is having on the environment and the people. This lack of recycling can be found in businesses and schools across America who could benefit from some sort of recycling program installed. The benefits of a well placed and organized recycling program can be endless from scholarships to the benefits it can have on the environment by saving trees and reducing the space need to dispose all the trash. South Caldwell High School is one of these schools across the country that is at a loss because of its lack of a recycling program and many other schools and businesses in Caldwell county are not reaping
Starting the club, I was proud to see so many dedicated artists who took anime seriously, and were enthusiastic about the medium and their art. But at the end of it all, it’s not about me, it’s not about the club leadership, it’s not even about which club members choose show up, it’s about art. That’s what I, and the rest of the leadership, want to help give to the Choate community.
my time in office, I was able to grow in my leadership, communication and delegation skills
