No doubt, many highly regarded things that happened in the United States occurred because of Jefferson. First, he helped write the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which is one of the most impactful things he did. The Declaration laid down a foundation of ideals and goals for our nation. This helped us win our freedom from King George III, and provided a good example for other countries who were also struggling with independence. This was an important change to the United States because it allowed colonists to feel entitled to something. Even now, it has had a lasting effect on us. Next, in 1777, Jefferson wrote a document, The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. In it, he had written that he supported practice of any religion, claiming that freedom of religion is a ‘natural right’. This later …show more content…

Thomas Jefferson, a man divided, responsible for doubling our nation’s property through the Louisiana Purchase. But, he expanded it even further by driving the Indians into debt and forcing them to give him land to pay it off. An advocate for public education and religious freedom, Jefferson also degraded blacks. Additionally, Jefferson caused a disaster in his country in the years of of 1807 and 1809, isolating the United States from trade with Britain and France. This hurt the country and its people tremendously, corrupting the Southern economy. Thomas Jefferson was an extremely influential politician and there were many implications that came out of his eight years of presidency in the areas of race, sectionalism and partisan politics. Despite the copious flaws and implications of Jefferson's actions while in office, he accomplished some daunting tasks that aided the development of the young nation. Having said that, many of his policies and other accomplishments while in office had lasting effects that had implications seen later in the 19th century and through the 21st century as well.

Eugene R. Sheridan is a member of the Princeton University Department of History and Senior Associate Editor of the Papers of Thomas Jefferson. He has written books and articles on a number of subjects in early American History. To begin with, the author cites specific achievements that Thomas Jefferson made, starting with the contributions he did when he was part of the Continental Congress. “As a member of the Continental Congress, he proclaimed in the imperishable prose of the Declaration of Independence the values of liberty, equality, and natural rights that always have been at the heart of the American experiment in self-government” (Sheridan 64). He specifically speaks about his participation as the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the best presidents that the United States had. I say this because he did many things that changed the lives of many Americans. I do consider his presidency to be a success even though he had some troubled times. He did whatever he could to avoid conflict and believed that any man could be reached by reason. He did very important things such as negotiating the Louisiana Purchase and launched the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He also believed that the power of the federal government should be limited.
As the chief author of one of the most important documents in the founding of the Uniited States, it is safe to say that Thomas Jefferson is very connected to the United States. It can also be said that since Thomas Jefferson was so critical in the foundation of American that the nation could have inheirited Jefferson’s flaws and strengths. Thomas Jefferson is a representation of the American.
He was agreat leader, but as a person, Jefferson was quite a bastard. Racist and acquisitive, he was, especially when it came to obtaining land and money. He threw the Indians westward to get their land by forcing them in debt. He threw away thousands of Indians just for their land, claiming to be doing the best thing for our nation. This land acquired was used for agriculture, probably to grow crops, sell them, and get money. This is a perfect example of his greed. His racism encouraged him to continue slavery and even make free blacks feel vulnerable. Jefferson didn’t even believe his own writings of “all men are created equal”. Religious freedom was alright, but different skin colors separated whites from blacks? In addition, his affair with Hemings caused huge controversy with his people, and those who hated Jefferson found yet another reason to keep doing so. Meanwhile, he caused a loss to thousands of workers, seemingly to prevent war. This was practically worthless, because the United States went to war with Britain in 1812, anyway. In this, Britain had acquired Native American allies, in which Jefferson said they: “have by their unexpected desertion and ferocious barbarities justified extermination and now await our decision on their fate.” Jefferson, although a decisive leader, trying to do what was best for him and his people. Unfortunately, this came with consequences and oppositions. Jefferson may have been a good president in some places, but he was a terrible
Thomas Jefferson was the third American President. Due to the fact that he was such an early President, he influenced our political system greatly, both in the short and long term with his seemingly quiet approach to congressional matters. During his presidency, many things happened that changed the United States as we know it. He coordinated the Louisiana Purchase, assisted in implementing the twelfth amendment, formed the character of the modern American President, and cut the U.S.’s war debt by a third.
Jefferson accomplished a lot while he was president that affected everyone at this time and even us today. While Jefferson was president, he wrote the Declaration of Independence. It was written to declare the independence the colonies had from Great Britain. He also stated that all men should be created equally and stated that slavery is against our most important rights, life and liberty itself. Jefferson wrote a bill establishing that all virginia schools were to give all children male or female, get three years of teaching in writing, reading arithmetic and history. He also came up with the Louisiana Purchase. It was land deal between the U.S. and France. In order to buy all this land he used Hamilton 's finacial plan, which was a good plan until it provoked the
Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States of America who had strong beliefs about what was right and what was wrong. He himself not only upheld his beliefs, but he did betray his beliefs by doing certain things that directly went against his beliefs and his wrongful doings are noticed. Thomas Jefferson lived up to a high yet low extent regarding his ideals and beliefs for the United States of America.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.” Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non-Intercourse act resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief.
The American Revolution, perhaps the most momentous war-related milestone in American history, would not have been possible without the strenuous efforts of the courageous men we call Patriots or otherwise known as the Founding Fathers of America, who gave their all in the fight for freedom against the British. Many names of great men come to mind when we think “founding fathers,” such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, or Samuel Adams. Yet there is still one great patriot and founding father who seems to stand out above the rest, and that man is Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson is widely known as being the author of the Declaration of Independence and the Louisiana Purchase that bought more than 20% of the U.S. However, what most
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson is arguably one of the most influential people to Virginia and the United States before and during the American Revolution. Jefferson had been a governor for Virginia during the American Revolution, he had wrote the Declaration of Independence along with four other notable American politicians, and served as a minister to France in 1785-1789. Without Jefferson the American Revolution most likely would have played out completely different and we could possibly be living a different life today.
