Video games have been around for many years and have slowly developed into a common hobby for many young adults. In fact, more than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide. The original gaming console by Magnavox has evolved tremendously over the last decade and has been developed by many different companies. Although there is an innumerable amount of consoles in the world, two iconic consoles are the Microsoft’s XBOX 360 and the Nintendo’s Wii. The XBOX 360 and Wii are two very popular gaming consoles that are different in appearance, the applications and services they provide, and the amount of games and accessories they each have available. When compared to each other, the XBOX 360 and Wii have multiple differences when it comes to the way each console looks. The Nintendo Wii is a very small and compact device. The console developers managed to keep the Wii as small as possible by incorporating only one Universal Serial Bus also known as a USB port. The Wii console is available in a variety of colors, but the most common and standard color is white. Compared to the small size and compact aspects of the Wii, the XBOX 360 is extremely different. The XBOX is close in size to a toaster oven and can be purchased in black and white. Unlike the Wii, the XBOX has multiple USB ports. When designing the XBOX 360, Microsoft kept the gamer in mind and tried to provide them with an easy and resourceful device. The overall appearance of both consoles varies and depending

As sales of Nintendo’s Wii and DS dominate the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and PlayStation Portable, respectively, the pressure continues to mount on Sony and Microsoft to move to the next level in the ongoing console wars. Sales of the Wii in 2008
First Xbox, let’s look at the design and user interface. The Xbox is huge way bigger than the PS4. On the top half of the the console is a vent which means if you want to put something on top of it forget about it. Towards the backside of the Xbox is three USB ports, but only two are for controllers. The controller ports are in the back are very awkward because there usually in the front. The Xbox runs off a Windows 10 UI (User Interface) which makes the home screen more complex and harder to find things but very nice looking. Now let’s look at the exclusive titles for the Xbox. Some titles include Halo, Gears of War, Titanfall, and Sunset Overdrive. These titles are huge but since the Xbox runs off of a windows 10 UI that means some games can also be played on the PC.

According to Wikipedia, “The Xbox One's components were designed to evoke a more entertainment-oriented and simplified design than previous iterations of the console” (“Xbox One”). The Xbox One is made to look and feel like an entertainment system, rather than a video game console. The Xbox One will be priced at $499 in North America ("Microsoft Xbox One”).
There are two current Xbox 360 S (slim) models which are the Xbox 360 250GB and the Xbox 360 4GB. They also have optical digital audio with built in WiFi (Loguidice). “They also are sleeker, smaller, and run quieter and cooler than their predecessors” ( Loguidice).
The key facet responsible for the Wii’s popularity lies in the innovative design, which “calls to action” the player with physical movement. The writer views the wireless motion sensitive game console as a new, simple and fun method of gaming for all age groups. As a result, it may appeal not only to the traditional expert video game player like the PS3, but other individuals outside that segment. It thus
Microsoft targets numerous segments of the population of many countries through advertisements of its Xbox. Microsoft, one of the most successful companies in the world, is using its innovations to take over the machine gaming market. Sony and Nintendo have been the gaming powerhouses for many years now, but are now starting to become overshadowed by the success of Microsoft’s Xbox. As long as gaming machines have been available, teenage boys have been the targets of the companies. One new strategy that Microsoft is using is the targeting of all ages and both sexes of consumers. While other companies continue to stay in the young kids and teenage market, Xbox is revolutionizing the target market of gaming systems.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have been competing for a decade with Sony dominating the market throughout most of the years because of their superior technological products. The video games industry faces an entirely new rivalry situation. In 2008, Sony lost its strong position on the market, because of Nintendo’s success with their dynamic Wii over Sony’s high-tech PlayStation 3 and Windows’ Xbox 360. Although the Wii was technologically much less advanced than PS3 and Xbox 360, the Wii's cheaper price, ease of use, innovative motion-sensitive controller, and simple but fun games, made the console a hit all demographics from 9 to 65 years old, male and female. All these factors resulted in Nintendo’s Wii dominating sales and surpassing Sony’s by an impressive ratio of 2:1.
Microsoft introduced the new console (Xbox 360) one year before Sony, the industry leader, unleashed the PS3. Microsoft with the first mover advantage built a large customer base and has the largest library of games. The PS3 console has the best raw power and blue-ray capabilities. Nintendo, although with the less advanced console (Nintendo Wii), has successfully distinguished itself from their competitors with an innovative controller whith motion-sensor capabilities.
* In the past game consoles were just for playing games but today they are more than just for playing: surfing in the internet, download pictures and movies, rip music, and watch movies (e.g. Sony’s integrated Blu-ray) past: gaming ; today: gaming and home entertainment systems
Microsoft started developing their console after the DirectX, which was a programming unit that was mostly used for creating videos and various types of graphics for computers. Microsoft modified their DirectX and made it into the Xbox. Since Microsoft built the Xbox from a computer it was extremely powerful compared to Sony’s Play Station 2, Nintendo’s Gamecube, and Sega 's Dreamcast ( ). Microsoft was concerned if they would get support from third party developers because it was the first video game console they produced.
With the advancement of new technologies such as high definition(HD) and motion sensors it was only natural that consoles would evolve to incorporate these new breakthroughs. The first seventh generation console to be released was Microsoft’s Xbox 360 on
