There is a popular saying; “To get your foot in the door”. I believe that participating in this internship program will provide the opportunity needed to begin my career with the NFL. This program would enable me to begin on the “ground floor” of the company giving me the experience to grow into a permanent career in Football Operations. If I am able to participate in this internship I would have the ability to learn aspects like coordinating travel, monitoring budget, serving as a liaison, etc. This internship will provide the foundation needed for me to build my dream career in the
In the area of collegiate sports, there have been numerous heated debates about the integrity of many things concerning the NCAA and how it handles legal and ethical issues. Two well renowned scholars tackle this issue in their co-authored book entitled
JJ Watt’s journey to the NFL was not easy. He had to go through many struggles. Justin James Watt was born on March 22, 1989 in Pewaukee, Wisconsin and was the oldest out of his two other brothers. JJ Watt played football in highschool and in 2007 he went to Central Michigan as a tight end. Watt claims that growing up in Wisconsin meant liking the Wisconsin Badgers, so at a very young age JJ Watt had always idolized them and wanted to play for them. Unfortunately he didn't get a scholarship offer from Wisconsin, so when he played at Central Michigan. He knew his passion for wanting to play for Wisconsin, so he transferred to Wisconsin to play football, but since he wanted to play football he would have to sit out for a season. To keep him busy
Intercollegiate sports have been around since the 1850s to promote athletes to play for the love of the game and not for income. Recently, two different decisions have endangered this tradition: the decision by the National Labor Relations Board to recognize the Northwestern University football team as employees of the university and a federal judge’s decision regarding payment to football and men’s basketball players. Both decisions favor the idea of paying NCAA athletes because their games generate massive income; from ticket sales, merchandising, and TV and marketing contracts, that benefit the university, but not the athletes themselves (Majerol). Nonetheless, NCAA athletes should not be paid because of the problems that would arise from
My motivation is to be part of moving the U.S. government into the 21st century. The 115th Congress will face many challenges shaping U.S. technology policies and regulations. As a Congressional Innovation Intern, I will improve my capacity to effect change by applying my technology and policy skills to assisting with this effort. The internship will provide invaluable experience in learning how legislative change happens in Congress. Taken together, these will enhance my ability to effect the change I anticipate in my future career.
As I am reaching the halfway point with my summer internship at Mandalay Sports Media I want to expand my tasks from just using the Wiretap to start using all of the softwares as well learn how to script a video. Over the past two weeks the other interns who have been here for longer were using the software called “esearch”. Esearch is an ESPN database software where they store all of the clips they gather. ESPN has a large database so using it to obtain a small amount of video footage has its difficulties. First to sign in to research you need to obtain a six digit code from one of the project managers. I was not in contact with most of them and truly just friendly with one so I went to Andy. Andy gave me the code and helped me get accustomed to the database and how it works. First, you must type in a start date and an end date so the database can minimize the videos you are searching for. Then you are suppose to type in keywords that help you find the exact video you are looking for. For example, I was tasked with trying to find a close up iso shot of Bryce Harper during a game. For this I had to use terms from my COM 107 class with the classifications of what each shot is. Since I had background knowledge of what the shots were this helped me get accustomed of using Esearch. Finding the best possible clip takes time because ESPN has a lot of content in their database but once I found the best clip I took down the start time and end time within to clip to make sure its as
Ian Crouch wrote this article to have people to start thinking more about if college athletes are employees. The coach for Northwestern, Peter Sung Ohr, found out that if you receive a scholarship from some schools you are considered an employee of the college. According to Northwestern it only applies to private schools and not universities; universities are subject to state labor laws. This was brought to Northwestern football program attention, but the description of life of college athletes calls the N.C.A.A’s entire amateur model into question. By being employees from getting scholarships, it gave them a reason to start a union. Ohr agreed, “Under the common law definition, an employee is a person who performs services for another
During Summer 2015, I participated in an unpaid internship program with Evan Guthrie Law Firm. While the employer is located in Charleston, South Carolina, my job as the intern is to be trained to become the editor and contributor in Hawaii for a new legal website, managed by the firm and dedicated for college students. This internship covered the Hawaii portion of the website.

Through the novel The Book Thief, the author Marcus Zusak conveys that words have a powerful effect which can be positive and negative. Towards the middle of the book, Liesel Meminger, an adopted girl living in Nazi Germany, and Ilsa Hermann, the lonely wife of a mayor, become friends over their love of books. Their relationship began when Liesel often read in Ilsa’s library while dropping off the laundry. Ilsa kept her house very cold and dark. As she grieved the loss of her son in World War I. Over time. LIesel was able to comfort Ilsa using her words and convince her to let go of her loss. Later on, after Liesel’s family died in a bombing, Ilsa Hermann returned the favor by taking Liesel, the lone survivor, in. This is just one of the many
Ever since college students started playing sports, back in 1879 when Harvard played Yale in the first collegiate sports game, the question of whether college athletes should be paid was addressed. From that point on athletes, coaches, and college administrators have brought forward points agreeing or disagreeing with the notion of paying college students. The students argue that they deserve to be paid due to the revenue that they bring for the college and because of the games they play and the championships they win. At first the idea of paying college athletes was out of the question, but now the argument has gone from a simple yes or no to a heated debate. Since college athletes are given a free education, they should not also be paid.
While growing up in the state of Texas I was introduced to National Football League (NFL) at a very young age. Not only was I obsessed with great players like Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving, I had a more finical appreciation for the lucrativeness associated with the NFL. My young adulthood as well as my teenage years was spent playing and learning football with the aspirations of hopefully making it to the NFL. Unfortunately, my playing days ended with tryouts at Texas Tech University, but my love for the game has remained stagnant over the years even till this day. The NFL today is Americas most watched sports league and has taken the crown as the most lucrative and unique economic force in sports. Forbes offered approximations stating that on average, the NFL generates more than $6-9 billion a year in revenues alone. A third of the individual franchises in the league were appraised at over more than $1 billion while the other franchises average nine figures or higher. The NFL as an organization generates its revenues through a multitude of ways ranging from huge television contracts, in-stadium ticket sales, advertising ads paid for by sponsors and merchandise. Their business model unlike most other leagues, is centered on a hard salary cap on player contracts which provides cost certainty with its sponsors. In this paper, I will examine the economic and historical narrative associated with the growth of the NFL’s

Juveniles in the justice system is an issue relevant not only to people in the criminal justice system but to society in general. There have been a number of studies done that link serious behavior problems in children to adult criminal conduct. In more recent years, there has been more research done regarding the causes and prevention of juvenile delinquency. The Department of Juvenile Justice lists 3 broad categories with many subcategories to help us understand what contributes to juvenile delinquency (CITE). These categories are listed as Individual, social, and community factors. Similarly, Dr. Alida V. Merlo, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania states that in recent history, the juvenile justice system has moved from a more punitive approach to juvenile justice to more prevention and treatment oriented approach. (CITE). This is a necessary change because as research begins to identify risk factors that may lead a child into the juvenile justice system, it is important to treat the juvenile accordingly. We would not treat a delinquent minor that has been a victim of maltreatment or abuse the same way we treat a child that has outside influences in the community that played a role in their delinquency.
firmly believe in the philosphy that “Where there's a will, there's a way” and hard work is the key to unlock the doors of the success because there is no shortcut and alternative for attaining success.
