The public lost trust in the police. The public lost their respect for the department because they felt that justice was not served. What cause many citizens to question this was the fact that the same police department who were involved in the Rodney King’s case were also involved in the Oj Simpson case. Oj Simpson’s defense team was known as the “Dream team”. They were made up of multiple lawyers, friends and close acquaintances. They defended him and won the case against the people of the state of California. Johnnie Cochran one of the “Dream team” members played a major role in the outcome of this case. In an interview done on Barbara Walter’s television show the lead member, Robert Sharprio asserted that he hired Mr. Cochran because he was black. In the interview with Barbara Walters, when she asked if he hired Jhonnie Cochran bacuse he was black, he said yes. Miss Walter’s also asked if the race card played a part and he admitted it did. He said that they did not play the race card but they dealt it. On the other side, was the lead prosecutor by the name of Marcia Clark. She was ridiculed, especially by men during this case. Her experience during this case led her towards writing a book. She had to much confidence in herself. She knew that the evidence would prove her case however, it did not. She underestimated Oj Simpson celebrity status and how he used his race to manipulate the jury. During the trail citizens felt that she was incompetent and her
Soon later the police finally picked up enough evidence to get a warrant for his arrest. Simpson and his lawyer Robert Shapiro both agreed that he will turn himself in at 10:00 am on June 17. Simpson didn’t go at the time he was given so the policemen and Robert Shapiro went to Simpsons home and discovered that he disappeared and left a letter saying "Don't feel sorry for me. I've had a great life, great friends. Please think of the real O. J. and not this lost person. Thanks for making my life special. I hope I helped yours. Peace and love, O. J." (Linder). Policemen and his lawyer thought it was a suicide letter. Until someone in Orange County saw Simpson riding a white bronco and immediately called the police. Only a couple of minutes later police cars and helicopters were chasing him, they followed Simpson all the way to his front gate of his house. Policemen saw that he was wearing a fake beard and had $8,750 in cash, loaded gun, and a passport, days later he was on his first day of the trial. On Tuesday, Jan 24, 1995 was the first day of the trial, Judge Lance Ito open to the people in the courtroom that he will be expecting to see some good lawyering skills for the case. Christopher Darden who open the trial said that Simpson was and abusive and a jealous husband to Nicole B. Simpson.
Some of the hardest decisions on trial are made by the jury, which means the jurors have one of the most important roles when it comes to the trial, since they have to decide on another human’s fate, either. One decision a jury makes can be the difference between going to jail for life or being liberated. When O.J. Simpson was declared “not guilty” for the homicide of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and his friend, Ronald Lyle Goldman, by the Lance Ito, many argued that O.J. should have been proclaimed “Guilty”. Although many claim the verdict given was ideal, strong evidences, proves O.J. Simpson to be guilty for murdering 2 of his close acquaintances.
OJ was a former NFL hero, played for several teams including the Buffalo Bills, OJ had two friends which were Al Cowlings and Robert Kardashian. OJ was accused for the murders of his ex wife Nicole Simpson Brown and Ron Goldman. There is hundreds of evidence that says OJ was the killer of these people, he even admitted multiple times to “ I didn’t mean to do it. I’m sorry.’’ OJ’s lawyer even said he probably did the murder. Multiple times before Nicole thought and dreamed of OJ killing her, she said that several times she has had to call 911 because of his extreme anger issues, which he says was from former football
How I Helped O.J. Get Away with Murder is the story of Simpson’s former sports agent, Mike
There were lots of facts and evidence against OJ, but he, of course, had the best lawyers and attorneys that money could buy on his side. His lawyers and attorneys turned the murder case into a racial battle that took the spotlight off of what crimes had really been committed. In 1985, OJ and Nicole became married, but their marriage was far from “picture perfect.” OJ wasn’t just unfaithful, he was extremely abusive. Friends and relatives on each side would often notice bruises on Nicole’s body. OJ would even openly say at parties “I’m going to kill her.”
O.J was a former football star who was very popular and rich. After O.J had a warrant for his arrest put out, DNA samples were taken from him which were soon “allegedly” lost by a dream team member (aboutforensics.com). The dream team was a group of individuals bought by O.J Simpson which included some of the best lawyers out there along with some of his friends for the jury. On October 3, 1995 the dream team announced O.J was not guilty. “We the jury in the above entitled action find the defendant, Orenthal James Simpson, not guilty of th crime of murder” (law2.umkc.edu).
Known around the world as O. J., famous celebrity Orenthal James Simpson was arrested and convicted for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her mistress, Ron Lyle Goldman. Although Simpson denied any participation in the crime, the FBI found numerous evidence that proved hands down that he was the murderer. After a trial that lasted more than eight months, he was acquitted and was able to go home. Personally, I feel that the jury made the wrong decision.
Orenthal James “O.J” Simpson was an African-American male suspect in the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. They were both found stabbed to death outside Nicole’s condominium in the Brentwood area in Los Angeles. After failing to turn himself in on June 17, he became a victim of a low-speed pursuit in a white Ford Bronco SUV. He was then arrested and sent to trial on October 3, 1995, were the jury’s verdict was “not guilty” for the two murders.
The Mysteries of O.J. Simpson (1995) The O.J Simpson trial in 1995 serves as a remarkable case that has greatly impacted America to this day. Numerous factors were involved in this historical trial that caused it to be a monumental moment in the history of our country. 1995 was a year full of theories and suspicion centered on the mysteries of a single person’s life. The trial was a crucial moment in history because it caused a division involving people that supported O.J.’s innocence and people that were against O.J. which ultimately led to racism dividing America.
The O.J. Simpson trial was one of the most distinguishable cases in American history. Many Americans tuned into the bronco chase on June 17, 1994 when Simpson was the main suspect for the murder of Nicole Brown-Simpson, O.J.’s ex-wife, and her friend Ronald Goldman, which occurred a few days prior (Lamb, 1994). O.J. Simpson was the murder suspect for the double homicide of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. He was a retired professional football player who resided in California. He was one of the black entertainers of the 1990’s along with Oprah, Michael, Wesley, and Spike. Through these entertainers, it was shown that there is opportunity to succeed for black men and woman in society (White, 1995). The number one question on everyone’s mind was not if O.J. was innocent or guilty, but whether he would be found guilty or just walk away. Other questions on the mind of American’s was did he actually commit the crime?
The people directly involved with this case are Judge Lance Ito, the prosecution lawyers, Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden, the defense lawyers, Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro and Robert Blasier , the jury and the defendant, O.J. Simpson. The families of the victims have also been present in the courtroom, as well as other spectators and news media. This case has heard one hundred and twenty witnesses over a nine month period.
The OJ Simpson case has been hailed "The Trial of the Century." One of the longest running court trials in history, this case was filled with conspiracy, controversy, and the power of celebrity. The biggest part of the trial was the evidence. The submission of the blood samples, the DNA testing, and the articles of clothing made the case what it was. Amidst all the accusations of planted evidence and conspiracy plans against Simpson, the jury and Judge Ito had to try to sift through and find Simpson guilty or not guilty.
In an attempt to counter the racist claims of the defense, the jury was selected and was mostly African American females (Gaines 2001). The district attorney of Los Angeles believed that an all white jury would be ineffective if Simpson were to be found guilty (Thernstrom & Fetter 1996). This outcome of the jury selection upset the Caucasian population because they felt as though the jury selection gave Simpson the upper hand in the trial regardless of the fact that the jury was majority female. The defense counsel was able to control the jury, in a sense through instilling in their minds that the LAPD was in fact racist. At the trial’s conclusion approximately 83% of blacks believed that Simpson was guilty, whereas only 37% of whites believed that Simpson was guilty (Thernstrom & Fetter 1996). These allegations also pushed the evidence collected from the crime to be discredited as well.
It is difficult to believe that O.J. Simpson was once a respected and celebrated professional football player, sports commentator, and actor. However, his image was irrevocably shattered on June 17, 1994 when Simpson was involved in a car chase that lasted about an hour on California's I-405 (O.J. Simpson leads L.A. police on a high-speed chase, 2013). Dubbed the "Crime of the Century," O.J. Simpson's trial was a media circus and was sensationalized for a number of reasons including Simpson's status as a celebrity, the mishandling of evidence, and the issue of race.
On July 10, 1995, the murder trial of O.J. Simpson began with the testimony of his oldest daughter, 26, Arnelle Simpson. Arnelle stated that her father was emotional, distraught, and out of control when he had heard of Nicole Simpson’s death. On June 12,
