Mike Gilbert is a retired sports agent for famous athletes including former NFL players Marcus Allen and O.J. Simpson. Gilbert graduated from Penn State with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and then spent two years at WBOY in Clarksburg, West Virginia as a sports anchor. Gilbert became an author from the time of 1947-1999. The book How I Helped O.J. Get Away with Murder is mainly about Gilbert’s connection to the O.J. Simpson murder trial -. Gilbert’s purpose for writing this book is to give the reader a perspective on O.J.’s life, his football career, and his murder trial. I have a genuine interest in sports and crime, and I chose this book because it is a blend of both. Throughout the story, Gilbert describes the sports agent-athlete relationship, …show more content…
This is most likely one of the reasons that Gilbert had a difficult time seeing the truth about Simpson. After the murders, Mark Fuhrman played a primary role in the investigation of O.J. Simpson. Fuhrman was a detective in this case. He played a big part by collecting strong evidence on Simpson that became important in the defense’s strategy. Throughout Fuhrman’s investigation, a timeline of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman murders was created, and this was crucial to figuring out the truth. This is an example of a secondary source because with the help of Fuhrman a timeline was created as a concrete piece of information tracking everyone involved in the murders. Throughout the story, Gilbert’s writing style is straightforward and specific. Gilbert explains each piece of information about Simpson and includes personal stories that he has with his childhood best friend. This book is organized very thoroughly, and it is easy to read. The book also includes a timeline that is simple to follow and helps readers understand the horrific events that occurred. How I Helped O.J. He also says that it was hard for him to comprehend this information because he never believed that was something Mike was capable of. In the book, Gilbert also states: “He truly did love her” while talking about Simpson and his wife Nicole. With the quotes stated above, I do believe that the author proved his thesis of describing the bond he had with Simpson due to his emotional connection towards Simpson. From being childhood friends, to seeing Simpson be convicted of murder, I think that the author showed bias towards Simpson. A quote that makes me feel sad is when Gilbert states: “I felt lost in thought and trying to talk to O.J. seemed impossible to do. We have known each other for years and thinking of my best friend as a murderer seemed unrealistic.” Another quote that shows bias is when Gilbert talks about helping Simpson as not only his sports agent, but also as his friend. “ O. J. and I were close, so if he needed a little extra something before a game, I helped him in a way a friend would and not a colleague.” This bias is negative because Gilbert could have helped other people by telling the truth, including the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown
Soon later the police finally picked up enough evidence to get a warrant for his arrest. Simpson and his lawyer Robert Shapiro both agreed that he will turn himself in at 10:00 am on June 17. Simpson didn’t go at the time he was given so the policemen and Robert Shapiro went to Simpsons home and discovered that he disappeared and left a letter saying "Don't feel sorry for me. I've had a great life, great friends. Please think of the real O. J. and not this lost person. Thanks for making my life special. I hope I helped yours. Peace and love, O. J." (Linder). Policemen and his lawyer thought it was a suicide letter. Until someone in Orange County saw Simpson riding a white bronco and immediately called the police. Only a couple of minutes later police cars and helicopters were chasing him, they followed Simpson all the way to his front gate of his house. Policemen saw that he was wearing a fake beard and had $8,750 in cash, loaded gun, and a passport, days later he was on his first day of the trial. On Tuesday, Jan 24, 1995 was the first day of the trial, Judge Lance Ito open to the people in the courtroom that he will be expecting to see some good lawyering skills for the case. Christopher Darden who open the trial said that Simpson was and abusive and a jealous husband to Nicole B. Simpson.
The jury really didn’t seem to remember the most important piece of information which was that the defendant’s blood was actually found at the crime scene. Bugliosi said “From the moment O.J. Simpson became a suspect in this double murder case, it was in the air, perhaps as in no other case within
At a young age, Simpson told his mother, that he would be in the paper one day, which his little sister would respond with, “In the police report.” Not only did he make the headlines as a star football player, he also

There were lots of facts and evidence against OJ, but he, of course, had the best lawyers and attorneys that money could buy on his side. His lawyers and attorneys turned the murder case into a racial battle that took the spotlight off of what crimes had really been committed. In 1985, OJ and Nicole became married, but their marriage was far from “picture perfect.” OJ wasn’t just unfaithful, he was extremely abusive. Friends and relatives on each side would often notice bruises on Nicole’s body. OJ would even openly say at parties “I’m going to kill her.”
Questions were asked and the trial had begun. O.J Simpson

Around the same time attorneys Dale Coventry and Jamie Kunz were defending a man named Andrew Wilson was facing similar charges in the same jurisdiction who confessed to them that he killed the McDonalds security guard, and that Alton Logan was innocent (CBSNews, 2008). The two attorneys, being bound by the Attorney-Client Privilege and their duty of confidentiality to their client they did not come forward with the information that could have relieved Logan from the charges and his life sentence. Wilson gave the attorney’s permission to disclose the information upon his death and they took necessary measures to preserve the information until the time came when they would be able to share it (CBSNews, 2008).

The Mysteries of O.J. Simpson (1995) The O.J Simpson trial in 1995 serves as a remarkable case that has greatly impacted America to this day. The OJ Simpson case has been hailed "The Trial of the Century." One of the longest running court trials in history, this case was filled with conspiracy, controversy, and the power of celebrity. The biggest part of the trial was the evidence. The submission of the blood samples, the DNA testing, and the articles of clothing made the case what it was. Amidst all the accusations of planted evidence and conspiracy plans against Simpson, the jury and Judge Ito had to try to sift through and find Simpson guilty or not guilty.
It is difficult to believe that O.J. Simpson was once a respected and celebrated professional football player, sports commentator, and actor. However, his image was irrevocably shattered on June 17, 1994 when Simpson was involved in a car chase that lasted about an hour on California's I-405 (O.J. Simpson leads L.A. police on a high-speed chase, 2013). Dubbed the "Crime of the Century," O.J. Simpson's trial was a media circus and was sensationalized for a number of reasons including Simpson's status as a celebrity, the mishandling of evidence, and the issue of race.

Mickey is an exceptional defense lawyer and knows the law incredibly well and knows how to create enough doubt when necessary, because of this ability, it worked well for those in need of his services, as well as providing financial means for himself. The more I read this book, the more I realized that Mickey is good at his job as a defense lawyer and it is up to the prosecutor, to make his/her case and protect their victims.
