The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international standardised test for non-native English language speakers, which assesses English proficiency. This testing system was created in 1980 by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and the British Council and has been picked up, revised and redeveloped into an international assessment by many countries including Australia. For those who want to enroll in universities or work as professionals in an English-speaking country, one must complete the IELTS Academic version. For immigration to Australia and New Zealand, it is a requirement to take the IELTS General Training version of the test. The difference between the Academic and General Training versions is the content, context and purpose of the tasks. All other features, such as timing allocation, length of written responses and reporting of scores, are the same (Ielts.org, 2015). The IELTS is made up of listening, reading, writing and speaking components. All examinees take the same listening and speaking tests, while reading and writing tests will differ between the Academic or General Training versions of the test.
For many EAL/D learners, the results of these tests hold great importance concerning their academic and professional prospects and success (Bachman & Palmer, 1996) and therefore in order “to make sure that they meet professional standards and to contribute to their further development” (Uysal, 2010, p. 314), test developers

Not only is the test giving in both the students native language and english It is also takes into account cultural and linguistic issues that can come up in standardized testing.
I love the idea of pairing English Language Learners with other students in the classroom. However, I have witnessed this in the classroom and I will say that it wasn't the best pairing for either student. The reason I feel this way is because of the personality conflicts. The native English speaking student would become very abrasive with his ELL because she was not listening to him. When I would remind him to slow down and explain to her what he was saying and the reason he wanted to do it his way, he would get aggravated. I feel when pairing ELL students we as teachers have to be mindful of both individuals personalities. It is my opinion that ELL's need to be partnered with a strong reader who is thoughtful and patient. A student who is

In addition, all the data from ELL proficiency test most of decision making will be beneficial for ELL students during testing and classroom activities.

The English language, although used by almost all across the United Kingdom, has been mutated and altered in so many ways that sometimes we cannot even understand it ourselves.
The article “English Only” Laws divide and Demean by Warren Blumenfeld states the author’s view against enacting a law making English the official language of the federal government. Mr. Blumenfeld’s premise in "English Only" is that the law is unnecessary and divisive in the United States. He is seeking a call to action in his home state of Iowa against the “English -only” law because he believes that it will negatively impact the beliefs that our nation is founded upon, rather than celebrate and promote our uniqueness as a nation of people from different cultures seeking the freedom to be individuals. He is an opponent of this law since he believes it has the potential to create prejudice and discrimination toward our citizens because

Distinctively visual representations allow the audience to envisage different purposes crafting emotions which stay with us forever. Graphic depiction is a fundamental characteristic within distinctively visual, thus the audience is able to be exposed to the intense illustrations exemplified by composers. Spudvilla’s portrayal of “Woolvs in the sitee” demonstrates the child’s inability to reconcile with himself. Contrasting to this notion; the playwright “Shoe-horn Sonata” to expose the brutal reality of POW camps during WWII. Therefore, distinctively visual forces the audience to succumb to the barriers society creates.
When it comes to teaching English Language Learners, math is often an under researched topic because it is thought to be a language of numbers (Janzen, 2008). A misconception that many educators share is that because math uses symbols it is not associated with language or culture (Bresser, Melanese &Sphar, 2009). Not all English Language Learners are the same, and often times ELLs enter a new classroom that requires proficiency on both mathematical and linguistic levels. ELLs come in with different levels of schooling, some come from a situation where they have been attending school regularly, so the transition is not as hard as it is for the students who really have not attended school on a regular
My interest for the Attorney Advisor position with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) arises from my longstanding commitment to constantly improve myself. I have always enjoyed legal research, writing, and the complexities of intellectual property. I have no doubt that my enthusiasm to research, my eagerness to learn, and my strong ability to communicate clearly, work efficiently, accurately, and quickly, will make me an invaluable asset to the USPTO. I believe these traits combined with my unique skillset, developed as a result of experiences working for the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (Diamondbacks), Nike Inc. As a result of testing accountability, teachers have changed the shift in their classrooms and focus on teaching to the test. Many criticize that the tests that are administered do not allow for thoughtful or deliberate thinking. Multiple choice questions, condensed reading passages, add to the inauthenticity of the test and can impede the ability of students. Studies have also show that test taking has a negative impact on student achievement in reading, writing, and mathematics. ELL students are still developing their English language skills while learning new content. It is unfair to have the expectations that these ELL students are being held accountable with the same standards as their native-English-speaking peers. ELL students need to have the necessary background knowledge, English language and academic language knowledge to successfully understand test
According to Diane K. Brantley (2007), “When administering an IRI, it is valuable to do a complete assessment of the ELL’S abilities to read and comprehend English, and if available, in his or her primary language, (Brantley, 2007). Assessing a student’s
There are not many advantages for English language learners whereas standardized testing is concerned. Teachers will have to create individualized ways in monitoring students’ progress to gain true assessment results.
