In the third and final chapter, the family found the new drudgery of their lives. Their “overworked and tired-out family” (p. 880) increasingly neglected Gregor. He longed for responsibility and was “often haunted by the idea that next time the door opened he would take the
Gregor scurried away back into his room using every last bit of energy he had left. He sunk. Grete had lost all of his love for him. He wanted to tell her about the music conservatory he was planning to send her to before he was turned into the bug she hated. In his dreams, she had been happy: embracing him with tears of joys and praising his name. “I am so stupid to think that anyone in this family could ever love me again,” Gregor thought to himself. As soon as Gregor was back in his room, he heard the door slam and deadbolt lock.
Social stratification is a concept used within sociology that explains the divisions and social inequalities of large groups of people within a particular society. The Hunger Games (2012) is a film that demonstrates this through amplifying how the power of the rich members in a polarised society are taking control of the poor and separating them in different districts which create specific social rankings. This essay will use the perspective of conflict theory to examine how Australian society is also effected by social stratification and therefore divided in social classes which effects their access to social equalities.
My two books for this comparison essay are “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. “The Lottery” is about the towns people drawing out slips of paper and seeing who gets the slip of paper with the black pencil dot; whereas The Hunger Games is about Katniss taking her sister's place when she she's called into the Hunger Games and trying to survive in the arena with Peeta in the Hunger Games. This book ends with Katniss and Peeta winning the Hunger Games and the two of them returning to District 12 with mixed feelings for each other, and an unforgettable experience. There are many similarities between these two books.
In the novel, The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, the reasons for Katniss and Peeta's winning the Game was all thanks to the help of their team. Their team has helped them, Katniss and Peeta, by training them at their sessions, helping them get their sponsors, and keeping them alive while being in the Game.
