Lorenzo Espada June 7th, 2017 The Five Objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor. The first Objective is perhaps one of the most important ones, (not taking anything away from any of the other objectives) minds are more powerful together. To unite college men of culture, patriotism, and honor, in bond of a fraternity. The main thing of this objective comes from the first two words, to unite; come or bring together for a common purpose or action. Strength is in numbers however quality is always better over quantity, “less is more nigga its plenty of us” (Jay-Z, Pound Cake). When men who are
As Brothers of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity and as diligent students, we portray specific core values in everyday interaction not only with each other but also in business experiences and ethical
I thoroughly enjoyed this portfolio. I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Pi Chi Chapter here at Stockton University. This was not only a campus activity with my chapter, and the Stockton Community, but it was an international community service project for the sorority in itself, which has over 283,000 members. The community service project included all members of the sorority to turn in 1 backpack to the sorority to be donated to children who were unable to receive school supplies, for whatever issue, where their parents were unable to afford school supplies. I was fortunate enough to see one of the schools that Alpha Kappa Alpha donated to which was a school in Camden, and which is a place where poverty is extremely high. To turn in my backpack, my chapter and I attended North Atlantic Regional Round-Up where about 400 backpacks were collected and over 4,555 school supplies were collected. Not only did Alpha Kappa Alpha help increase the quality of a child’s education, but they donated in areas where poverty is also very high, so that students could have the resources that they needed to succeed in school, which made me feel like I
"I am a Theta. I am for the child." As an undergraduate, pledging Theta at Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to my community, especially through our philanthropy work for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
The Greek communities that have risen across the country have created huge impacts on every university that they have established themselves on. Historically, fraternities were designed for students to discreetly meet to discuss issues and host debates that their members believed would be deemed inappropriate by their collegiate faculties. Since their founding, fraternities and sororities have completely revamped their focuses. They are used as social, professional, and honorary organizations that promote many different combinations of community service, leadership, and academic success. The ideas of brotherhood and sisterhood have also transcended the college experience,
On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective admittance, faculty and community support. It was not until one hundred and thirty years that the first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization emerged from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations established on college
The pillars of National Honor Society, scholarship, leadership, service and character, are the foundation upon which each chapter and its’ members strive to better their community and school. Service is what creates the National Honor Society, the actions of one done in order to help others or the community without any monetary or material compensation. Scholarship, the commitment and desire to learn; leadership, the initiative to take action in order to create results for a group of individuals; and character, the distinction that sets an individual apart from others, are the defining criteria of members. These four pillars have been quite evident in my growth and desires for the future. Throughout my education, I have found that it has been
Every successful leader is built upon the strongest foundations. A foundation that is a conglomerate of scholarship, leadership, service, and character ensures the optimal potential of an individual. The importance of these pillars is most apparent in National Honor Society. The scholarship of an individual sets them above the herd; however, their character, the force that drives them to achieve the impossible, is the mold that shapes the leader they’ll become. Furthermore, service opportunities not only open member's’ eyes to the compassion needed in leaders but also the skills in management, cooperation, and perseverance demanded from them in the community.
Originally, I had the common misconception that fraternities solely focused on parties, drinking and their social status. As I further researched the founding principles of Alpha Phi Alpha I became aware they collectively prioritize scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity. Alpha Phi Alpha is
Pursuing the dream of obtaining membership into the First Intercollegiate Greek Fraternity for African Americans, Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. is one of very few ultimate goals in my life. An organization that was founded to stimulate the ambitions of its members and prepare them for great usefulness within the community has since become one of the most well respected organizations in America. Over one hundred years later, the pivotal movement in 1906 has spread to over the entire country in different collegiate chapters and cities across America and the impact has been tremendous. To some individuals, I was considered very lucky to be reared in the upbringing I experienced. But in my eyes it was a double edged sword.
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
So come around this rush season, I go to the info night just to clarify what exactly Alpha Kappa Psi was. And this is exactly what I was looking for, here on campus I’ve done well in the social aspect but I’ve yet to reach the same level
FAfter my resignation, I moved to Morenci, AZ where my spouse had started a job 6 months prior. I started on my Associate in Business administration at EAC in Fall of 2013. There were some courses that were difficult, but managed to pull through. I was surprised when I was selected to join the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at EAC. I graduated in May of 2015.
