The objectives of Alpha Phi Alpha are to stimulate the ambition of its members, to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the cause of Humanity, Freedom, and Dignity of the individual; to encourage the highest and noblest form or manhood and to aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic, and intellectual status. My previous work experience included innovation in many areas but mostly in myself. I had to inform new students about all campus resources, involvement opportunities, and campus policies, while also serving as a role model and mentor to these students as they make their transition to college. This meant taking a look at myself and asking, “Am I the best representation that this University has to offer?”; I was not, it was the drive I had for myself to display the best example to these students. This is what led me to change; I am very self-motivated and ambitious which is one of the objectives of this fraternity. I know I have …show more content…
This is why I am choosing to empower myself with education while joining like-minded men to increase our power as a collective. Being First is to excel where all others do and do not, Being a Servant is to act with humility and humbleness to others not only as we grow but uplift them up as well, To Transcend means finding the limits of the possible and then going beyond that. I contribute the Ambition of the Jewels by not letting any obstacles hold me back, The Passion of this organization's members to uphold the objectives and principles in everything I do to better myself and my community, The Obedience as a man and a leader to know when to lead and when to follow, and foremost Innovation. Innovation not only myself but in my mind, a new mind means a new perspective, a new way of looking at my circumstances; this is necessary to not only change the direction you are going but this
Almost two decades ago, when I presented myself for employment, I was eager to make a difference. I believed that I’d joined an organization, in its embryonic stage, with individuals that were malleable and unanimous towards achieving its success. Since then, I have poured my heart and soul into every task that I have encountered; And, sometimes under the most vexing of circumstances.
Furthermore, Alpha Phi Alpha inspired by its national program, “A Voteless People is a Hopeless People,” encouraged
and not fall victim to the dangers of peer pressure. The Alpha Epsilon Rho are the ideals by which Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated has set its foundation. There are seven points and they are to reflect in the different aspect of a person who wants become or is a part of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated. The seven points of the Alpha Epsilon Rho are dedication, honesty, humility, patience, pride, respect and unity. I do not think the Alpha Epsilon Rho was written down the way it was for the sake of alphabetizing. I think the Alpha Epsilon Rho was written the way it was to depict the different phases we are going to go through in this process. I can apply the Alpha Epsilon Rho to the rest of the process by starting off with the first
Following my first year I had learnt to see where I was placed within the organisation. However the greatest progress had clearly been this year as these two domains seem ‘the norm’ within my role. In addition, Setting the Direction is embedded into my work. Whereby previously I had seen my role as one of problem solver, I had deepened my awareness of how I could bring tacit knowledge to a situation and build a direction for others to follow rather than just reacting to situations. Preparing for a large service change and improvement has added to my sense of self worth as I work differently and can see the changes in
During the interview, I focused on questions to pertained to what the fraternity has done for them. An impactful quote I got during the interview that described what the fraternity has done for one of my brothers was, “Guys that normally wouldn’t be together, coming together and actually doing fun stuff. The fraternity has made me really jump out of my comfort zone and become a different person than I was before” (Anonymous).

Over the last couple of years, I have had many opportunities that dealt with me enriching diversity for my campus and community. Being a member of Phi Theta Kappa has many immeasurable benefits. One benefit that came with me being a chapter officer at North Hennepin Community College is that every year we get to choose a project that benefits or raises awareness to the community. This year me and my Phi Theta Kappa team chapter members wanted to see what our fellow student body members thought about equally underrepresented minorities in position of power. We were able to gather and interpret the results. From the results, I personally changed my attitude, I learned that everyone needs to be educated so that they could be more knowledgeable
By supporting and resourcing, a leader provides an environment that is not only uplifting to the members, but one which propels actions and positive change. If members are in an environment where they know they will be supported and can find resources when in need, they will be more apt to strive for improvement and creating optimal goals. The act of engaging in honest self-evaluation adds to the latter because in addition to a supportive, resourceful environment, the members of the organization will see their leader trying to better themselves and they will do the same which in turn will generate positive change and an optimal atmosphere for goal achievement as well as goal development. Fostering collaboration as a servant leader is essential as well because it is an action that has the power to generate contemplation, problem solving, and openness. Since the servant leader is participating in the collaboration and providing an environment for the members of the organization in which to do so, it allows the followers to see that their leader does not hold themselves above everyone, but feels that each person’s input is vital to goal achievement. Communication is
adapt and change when things don't go according to plan.) Influencing others (Creating buy-in for a specific vision.) Partnering (Connecting with other chapters, with your advisor, with your Fraternity/Sorority advisor on campus, etc.)
If one is to succeed in leading, they must put others first. Author Robert K. Greenleaf said, “The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant-first to make sure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to administer, is: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society?
HOSA was established in 1976, they are trying to help students have all the qualities that the health care community need. HOSA is enhancing many qualities of the students such as skill, leadership and knowledge. The International Leadership Conference is an upcoming event many HOSA members are excited about. It give members opportunities to meet people with similar career goals, they get to tour the health care facilities, learn more about the current issues, and they get to see general sessions. AcademyHealth is another type of student organization, they too are involved in the health spectrum. AcademyHealth is trying to increase the understanding of methods and data used in the field, they also enhance the professional skills of researchers
One attitude change that was implemented in my tenure as president was how we as an active chapter viewed other fraternities. I strongly believe that completion between fraternities brings out the best in our respective chapters; unfortunately it can also bring out the worst as well.
With this position I learn many things but the biggest thing that I took away from this position was that every organization starts somewhere and that the history of the chapter is the most important part no matter how boring we as a chapter may have found it. I found it to be inspiring and educational. Delta Zeta has six founders and each founder had something different to offer. A valuable lesson I learn from this is that no one person can create something so valuable without working with others. Teamwork is important no matter what you are aiming
I needed the help of others and without their help, the project would have failed at multiple points during its progress. This collaboration and the relationships formed as a result of it led to the birth of the Nonstop Leadership Group, a local youth activism group in which I serve as a founder and executive director. The goal of the group is to build and sustain these relationships and form a network of young, aspiring leaders in our community and serve as the vehicle to take them from their dreams to the results they desire. Be it a community service project, start-up clothing line, or seeking a solution to a societal issue, the Nonstop Leadership Group is where these brilliant minds call home. No one man is an island. Everyone is given natural talents and qualities which come together to benefit society as a whole. It also has allowed me to realize that whatever my position or title, I am not “better” than any other member in any way. It gives new light to the Biblical principle that “the greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted,” (Matthew
Introduction: There are many ways that a person can lead. Some lead in an organization that creates entertainment. Others may lead in a small household that provides services. In Boeing, sound processes need to be put in place for an organization to be successful. Furthermore, organization justice needs to be employed and a suitable mission statement adopted to signify the organizational goal. However, the success of the organization amplifies when a servant leader is leading. A servant leader not only understands the importance of the process in an organization, but also understand that the people in the organization are what drives the organizational success. The servant leader understands that organizational behavior influences
