She expressed various emotions through her diary entries for example, her anger, she expressed how much she despised her mother and this gives the readers an idea of what went through Frank’s mind:
I’m boiling with rage, and yet I mustn’t show it. I’d like to stamp my feet, scream, give Mummy a good shaking, cry and I don’t know what else, because of the horrible words, mocking looks, and accusations, which are levelled at me repeatedly every day… (64).
Frank’s does not describe the war by describing what was happening to the people during the war, but instead the readers get to feel what it was like to live in fear though

The diary is not divided into chapters but instead has dates above the beginning of each diary entry: “Wednesday, 10 March, 1943” (68). There are several pictures provided at the beginning of the book for readers to visualize Anne’s diary entries much easily. There are pictures of Anne in her teen years, her diary entries that show how much her hand writing changed over time, it changed from printed to cursive, and pictures of the “Secret Annexe” which was where she and her family had been in hiding for over 2 years. Frank did not keep the tone of her writing consistent but rather had alternated tones in her entries depending on her mood and this makes the readers feel more close to Frank since they can experience and feel what she felt and expressed in her diary. The layout and format that was used allows the readers to become closer to the
In the popular book and story of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl there are many themes present throughout her journal. It’s a touching piece of literature that puts things into perspective about family, warfare, loneliness, and selfishness. Her diary gives insight about people who are actually living in those circumstances from Anne’s point of view, resulting in a more factual story than fictional novels loosely based on true events. Anne goes through a lot during her time in the Annex, including tense arguments with her family, bombings, thieves, Peter, and Dussel moving in. The events may not seem like that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but to a young girl, it’s a huge change of events. It shows a lot from her in the way she acts, Anne’s selfishness proving that stress and war can change people to be more selfish.
Frank “kept a diary” where she just wrote all the “horror of war” but also through the changes of a teenager goes through and basically her childhood was not a typical childhood that now a days children have. They had a leader where at a certain time she was able to be outside, they were told what to eat and what not to, and just the fact that her parents had to leave her and her older sister at one of the people who he worked for. Anne Frank did not write other controversial book because basically her diary was just where she expressed her feelings and just what she was going through. However, many readers did take this novel positive because they took it as a “lesson” and did not care if it was to sexual or to violence or to depressing either way we live in a world where we have all those things happening , but she taught us how to fight it and protect ourselves from
Anne had a heart filled with hope and had a bright future ahead of her, as the war progressed she began to see the suffering of the people around her. Everyone did love her personality. She was very curious, talkative, and playful and was lots of fun to be around. Anne had a hunger for knowledge and was very optimistic. Writing was always her favorite thing. It calmed her from the rages of the world, she could just write and be herself. When she went into hiding she lived in a place called the Secret Annex. A Secret Annex was a building that was placed between two buildings. The first floor was Otto Frank's business and the second was the hiding spot. The real name in Dutch meant behind or back, so in the diary, they used the term Secret Annex. For over 2 years she lived in the secret home, and that is when she got her journal at the age of 13. Almost every day she would write about her current life and the things going on around her. She would write about how much she missed her friends from school and often missed being outside out in the open air. When the Van Pels moved in they had a son named Peter, Anne would play around with Peter, take his shoes and hide them. She thought it was very amusing, Peter didn't quite think so.
Millions of jews died in the era known as the holocaust, the franks were forced into hiding cause of it. Anne frank and here family spent 25 months into hiding to avoid the Nazis. The whole frank family and their friends hid until the allied forces could liberate Holland. As time passed many historical events that occurred the annex influenced the moods and relationships of the characters.
Her thoughts and her style of writing were affected by the ordeal that she went through. When she first obtained her diary, she wrote about her life in Amsterdam and her “boyfriend” Harry Goldberg. “It’s easy to see that Harry is in love with me, rather fun for a change” (Frank 7/3/42). As time passed by, she started to write about more mature concepts, such as the war. “Every night hundreds of planes pass over Holland on their way to German cities, to sow their bombs on German soil… As for us, we’re quite fortunate. Luckier than millions of people… We’re so selfish that we talk about "after the war" and look forward to new clothes and shoes when actually we should be saving every penny to help others when the war is over, to salvage whatever we can” (Frank 1/13/41). Another thing that changed was her writing style. Before, she wrote in a simple manner. “Now I must stop. Bye-bye, we’re going to be great pals!” (Franks 6/14/42). But, gradually, she began to write in a more complex manner. “It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality” (Frank 7/15/44). Although, Anne Frank remained the same innocent girl she was at the beginning of the diary, she matured in tremendous ways throughout her experiences and this maturity was reflected through her
The Diary of Anne Frank is a remarkably moving book about the short life of a young girl and her family. The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result. The war resulted in the deaths of countless people, mostly innocent people. Before the invasion on D-day and the end of the war not too long after, the rest of the world didn’t know the real disaster going on over seas. Anne Frank’s once secret diary has introduced the immense suffering and horror that occurred during the Holocaust.

Anne matures throughout the course of her diary entries, moving from detailed accounts of basic activities to deeper, more profound thoughts about humanity and her own personal nature. “I know what I want, I have a goal, an opinion, I have a religion and love. Let me be myself and then I am satisfied. I know that I’m a woman, a woman with inward strength and plenty of courage.” This shows that Anne matures through the course of her diary, she considers herself as a woman rather than a young girl and sets goals for herself that she wants to achieve. Anne becomes more optimistic even after she feels misunderstood by everyone and feels completely alone.
Annelies Marie Frank was a Jewish teen born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She wrote a diary and was a World War II Holocaust victim. The family moved to Amsterdam and later went into hiding at the Secret Annex for two years to flee the Nazi. Anne wrote about her experiences and wishes during that time. When the family was found and sent to concentration camps, she was only fifteen; there she died. The Diary Letters were excerpts from her diary published on June 25, 1947 by her father, Otto. Due to its excerpts of despair, her diary is a story of faith, hope, and love in the face of hate. On her thirteenth birthday her parents gave her a red checkered diary. On that same day she wrote her first entry, addressed to Kitty, an imaginary friend: "I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support” During those two years in hiding, Anne wrote about her experiences daily to pass time. She explained the depth of despair into which she occasionally sunk during the day after confinement. She wrote on February 3, 1944 "I've reached the point where I hardly care whether I live or die,” "The world will keep on turning without me, and I can't do anything to change events anyway." Because she wrote Frank kept her sanity and spirits. "When I write, I can shake off all my cares," she wrote on April 5, 1944. It is typically called in English The Diary of a Young Girl and has
The Diary of Anne Frank gives a good example about how people from that time witnessed the things around them. Throughout the play, the characters are often experiencing new things in the world even though they are hiding in the attic. They face new challenges that also revolve around the changes in the world at that time. Anne and her family are often scared, worried, or sad in most of the story. The author uses these feeling to display what is going on in the outside world. For example, in one point of the story, there was a loud crash and the characters became worried that they have been caught by the green police. In another point in the play, Mrs. Van Daan becomes worried that the Frank family has been caught because they didn’t show up to the attic on time. In The Diary of Anne Frank, the author reflects on historical events by using the characters’ thoughts, actions, and
When reading all of the feelings and events added together, two themes stuck out. One theme is that Anne was lonely. In the inside of her book she stated that “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support”. This shows that so far in her life she really did not find the right person to open up to and talk about her most personal thoughts. Another theme I found was being completely
This literary work truly shows how Anne Frank was a martyr of racism and an insightful chronicler of her time period and place. The work also shows the typical adolescence of Anne Frank and her constant arguments with her mother in particular. It also deals with the day to day hiding she and her family went through. The only problem with the book is that the fact that Anne Frank rewrote her diary about two months before she was captured because she wanted her journal to be published after the war and she wanted to peruse a career in journalism. Therefore it is hard to tell what existed in her original copy and how much did she add afterwards.
Anne Frank uses her own personal experiences to shape the text. She was a victim of the horrors of the Holocaust, this is a first-person account of the events. Since she was there to witness it, we can see it through a Jewish person’s eyes, and understand the personal affect of the events better. She also has a unique perspective of being a young girl, instead of an adult. Since it’s a diary, it’s all her personal feelings; it’s not edited, like an autobiography. Anne Frank has a lot of
Through the unerveing, anxious times of the Holocaust, a profuse number of persons felt its abhorrent effects, but the world was able to see a first person visual through Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. Frank, writing her diary as young teenager, visits many críticical topics with the ink of her pen including the following: discrimination against the Jewish people, importance of family, the human body, and perhaps the most visual theme, loneliness of an adolescent. Her words, one day published for the eyes of the world to lay upon, still give symbolism and understanding towards a horrible moment in the world’s history that still applies to today’s society. This valuable read, not only entertaining, abely teaches life lessons and should be read by all.
If there was a massive battle happening a mere three days drive from you, would you notice? The answer may seem obvious, but in the book Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank, the youngest daughter of a family in hiding from the Nazis, does not notice the devastating battle that is occurring less than 72 hours away in Russian territory. By reading the book, the reader would not notice the action happening in Russia. There was no mention of the Anne Frank was unaware of the Soviet Union’s efforts to stop Germany, the contributions they made, or the sacrifices they faced in order to stop the war.
