In “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes the woman was extremely soft-hearted. When she was walking at night this young man tried to rob her for her purse, but was very unsuccessful considering the fact that Mrs Jones was a large woman. Mrs. Jones was kind enough to turn the envy that she could have had toward the boy, into something helpful. Even though the man tried to rob her, she still went out of her way to welcome the young man like he was her own. She enhanced him with knowledge of dignity and manners.

To start off, The boy shows the theme that with power of love you can trust somebody. According to the story, Roger tries to steal the woman's purse but the purse is around the lady’s shoulder and when he tried to steal it the boy falls over and the lady is mad at him. According to the story, when hate boy finally started trusting the lady, he asked,“Do you need somebody to go to the store,” “maybe to get some milk or something?” Because he trust the lady now and he thinks she is nice and won't put him in jail.
