Next, there is going to be five event recommendations on which Tee Talent can sponsor. The first three events are with organizations that have social missions that relate directly to accommodating people with disabilities, while the last two events are with organizations that have different types of social missions. It’s important for Tee Talent to sponsor organizations with social missions that relate directly accommodating people with disabilities because it aligns with Tee Talent’s mission of inclusion. This will help grow the business as Tee Talent will be able to connect with clients who have similar goals. However, it is important to also look at organizations who have different social missions as Tee Talent will be able to reach a larger audience. Although Tee Talent’s social mission may be different, sponsoring organizations with different social missions is a good way to grow Tee Talents client base as it reaches a larger audience. For example, companies such as Home Hardware sponsor the Food Bank of Waterloo Region even though Home Hardware has very little to do with food (Sponsorship Opportunities, n.d.). One local organization is Kitchener Waterloo Access Ability. They are a non-profit information and resource centre that provides programs and services for people with physical disabilities. Their mission is supporting “self-determination for adults with physical disabilities based upon the principles of choice, equality, co-operation and mutual respect” (Kitchener Waterloo Access Ability, n.d.). Tee Talent can engage with this organization by sponsorship, donations, or volunteering. Kitchener Waterloo Access Ability also often works with other individuals or organizations in an advocacy role. Working with this organization provides Tee Talent the ability to promote their brand while helping others that meet similar social
I am a self-directed volunteer as a peer community worker for disabled people in Toronto GTA. I am willing to speak with you, in groups or publicly any time about it. Nonetheless; when rough times have fallen upon my life and health in the past, I have always responded with humor and generosity since, my gratitude is the state of mind of thankfulness. Most people can describe me as being direct, humorous, down to earth and caring for the fellow humans. At this moment in time, I am the founder and manager of Peer Community Hub, as well as a social entrepreneur whose ideas, tasks and values are to build peer to peer community drop-in center for disabilities who are directed by disability people. Lone Star Play Ball is a non-profit organization that was founded in San Antonio, TX in 2008. The organization provides individuals with special needs the opportunity to participate in a co-ed non-competitive softball league. Lone Star has a competitive advantage through service differentiation as it is the only organization in San Antonio that caters to adults with special needs. In addition, the organization sets itself apart through the experience it offers to its participants, families, and volunteers. In order to maintain this competitive advantage, Lone Star Play Ball must establish branding to give the organization a distinct identity and be memorable and recognizable within the community. While Lone Star Play Ball has two leagues, this paper will focus on the branding for Lone Star Play Ball Southwest.
Implementing the new logo on team players uniforms is another promotion strategy to bring awareness, the more the logo is seen the more curiosity it brings. Awareness is crucial and the opportunity to do so is for the directors or members of Lone Star Play Ball to participate in walks around the city. Participating in walks offered by other non-profit organizations such as Autism Walks, and the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk are important. These walks target children and adults with disabilities, which is the same audience targeted by Lone Star Southwest. Becoming involved, and building relationships with other non-profit organizations, related to disabilities, builds partnerships. These partnerships can work as mutual cheerleaders and help promote
One organization in particular that has large involvement within the community to help disabled kids is this organization called Miracle League of the Triangle. This organization is country-wide organization that is located in multiple parts of the country. In particular, one location is in Cary, North Carolina. This organization is specifically related to the sport of baseball. This league operates like a real baseball league where there are multiple teams and each team plays against each other. Each player has some sort of disability where it’s a physical disorder or a mental disorder. The good thing about the involvement is that each player is assisted by a person known as a BUDDY where they help the player run the bases and hit the ball. It’s a real bonding moment for both the player and the BUDDY. It shows that the BUDDY really cares for the player and it makes the player feel more appreciated. The mission statement for the league is to create positive life experiences for children and adults with special needs and for their families through baseball. The league also has some core values in which they take and consider in this organization. Some values are that everything that is done should be player-centered and create an accepting, safe, and fun environment. The world sometimes responds in a ways not to accept people with special needs because they think they don’t fit into the society so they simply exclude them from most activities or other involvements in the community. To change this issue, the leagues organizes the baseball games to give kids a chance to participate in the community even if the league is a specific minority group. It gets these kids more involved to have exposure of interesting things in the world. The league gives everyone the opportunity to participate which creates unity among each other. The BUDDY system helps the staff, board, coaches
They are creating positive relationships with provincial and local civic leaders, including First Nations Band Councils. They also have good communication and positive working relationships with other service agencies and Improvements made to community accessibility. They are also pursuing co-location arrangements with other not for profits in Lethbridge, Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton. In addition, the spirit of positive inroads made by improving access to physical activity opportunities and a core of skilled and dedicated staff throughout regional offices. Good teamwork within and between regional offices and positive working relationships with trauma units, rehabilitation units/hospitals, and regional hospitals. I have seen several interactions of the SCI Alberta with our organization. For example, during my practicum, I want to Foothills hospital and children hospital several times, I also attended several meeting with other organization such as City hall, Calgary police headquarter, and other agencies and communities to advocate for people with disabilities. According to the agency sources, SCI Alberta is the only agency that provides a full spectrum of services for people with disabilities from the point of injury through
Sports and other physical activities help build other important life skills like courage, friendship/teambuilding, and problem solving skills. Not only do the members make new friends but as I volunteer myself I have met plenty of interesting people while helping out with the program. The foundation cares about their members very much and have several projects to help the disadvantaged like UNIFY that helps “increases athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities, while creating communities of acceptance for all.” There are many great opportunities provided to get involved with this program because they want everyone involved including the disabled as well as the community. It is also a great way to get your high school sports teams some volunteer hours or if your club wants to help out in your community SONM is a great place and they welcome all the help they can
This organization is a small nonprofit human service provider that provides help to the disable whose disability is physical and mental. This took me back to the obligations and objectives of Human Service Professionals to
This event happens once a year and takes place at our high school stadium. Special needs kids come from all around my community to compete in events that best suit their physical or intellectual disabilities. It is truly astounding to see a whole community come together to support these kids. At this past year's Olympics I volunteered as a peer buddy and my responsibilities included walking my buddy, Luke, to his different events and making sure he was having a good time. Luke won first place in the ball throw and second place in the 100 meter dash. I loved seeing how happy he was when he was handed his ribbons and I was so fortunate to have been able to spend the day with
In ninth grade, my mother suggested that I volunteer with peers at my high school who are special needs. She thought it would be good for me to meet other people my age who have their unique struggles in school, much like myself. I protested originally, but little did I know I would love volunteering with my peers, regardless of their disability. During this time, I signed up to volunteer with a local organization called Buddy Ball. At Buddy Ball, I had the opportunity to teach children with disabilities ages five through twenty-one baseball. When I volunteered with my peers, I mainly saw high schoolers with severe autism, intellectual disabilities, and emotional disturbances, whereas with Buddy Ball most of the participants had severe autism, intellectual disability, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, epilepsy, or a multiple of disabilities. Both of these experiences allowed me to gain knowledge of a variety of special
As much as they long for that feeling, why hasn’t the workforce utilized their special talents to benefit the world of business? Liability, communication and the lack of knowing about these talents are the thoughts come to mind. My vision is to open a non-profit job placement program for young adults with special needs that provide ABA therapists to assist in communication and social interaction between the employer and the employee. The mission and the goal of this program is to not only provide the feeling of belonging to these individuals by allowing them to earn their own wages but to also boost the economy by lowering unemployment all while improving the profits for a
When I was a freshman in high school, my parents decided to divorce. Because my mother did not work while they were married, the divorce had a major impact on our finances. We were forced to move to a smaller house in another city and she had to reenter the workforce just to support her three children. While my mother did not force me to work, I wanted to obtain a job to support myself and relieve some of the stresses in her life. In addition to helping out financially, working at my cheer gym gives me the opportunity to work with a variety of people. One responsibility I have is working with the special needs team. The age of members on this team ranges from 7 to 30 and all have different mental and physical disabilities. The highlight of working with this group is watching their faces light up when they perform at cheer
Spinal Cord Injury Ontario is a charity devoted to helping people living with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities. They run many events every month to help fundraise money so that SCI can offer free programs such as peer support and enhancing independence to assist people living with a spinal cord injury’s. However, after attending SCI’s annual London Roll & Bowl event we felt as if there was a lack of advertising and event awareness. We noticed that there was little to no advertising about SCI at the event and there was nothing posted about the Roll & Bowl event on their Facebook or Twitter page and that many of the participants at the event have been attending for many years. As a result of low advertising we feel as if SCI
One such non-profit agency whch provides opportunities for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities is located on Stewart street in downtown Peterborough. They also provide support for people with barriers to employment through an employment service program. Therefore, one can say that this agency deals primarily with social determinants of education, employment and social support networks.
I know in the past I have read a news article that made me question if it was true or not. A bunch of videos online makes me really question if it is true or false as well. I feel as though publishers make their titles misleading to receive more viewers or to get people to read the article. When I am in a checkout line and just standing their, I see magazines about a celebrity with false facts on the front page.
With the help of teachers and my efforts, I have been successful and was even a recipient of an academic achievement award for students with a 3.6 GPA or higher. It is not always easy learning the materials, studying and placing my thoughts onto paper, yet I will continue to advocate for myself in any circumstance necessary. Despite having learning challenges in the classroom, it does not limit my activities outside of the classroom. I love to volunteer! One of my favorite activities includes being a volunteer buddy for the Miracle League of the Fox Valley. The Miracle League is a baseball organization for children and adolescents with physical and/or cognitive challenges. My role of a buddy is to assist my fellow buddy in any needs she may need, protect her from possible injuries and make sure she is having fun! I love having the opportunity of being a buddy, it has formed a forever lasting companionship and provided smiles that touch us all! Addition to the Miracle League, I’m a member of National Honor Society in which I volunteer in several community organizations to help better the community. I was honored to be selected as a Link Crew member. It has been one of my greatest opportunities to advocate for my peers with disabilities. This is a first time that Appleton North Link Crew created a program for students with physical and cognitive challenges to be included in a freshman transition program in
