If you were to ask any individual what their idea of a hero is, they’ll most likely give you a perfect description of superman, but that’s the fictional visual that’s been placed into the minds of the general public. What is a true hero? A true hero is selfless, brave, and determined; someone like Ted Lavender. Lavender was highly respected, he was as brave as he could be without needing recognition, and he took a bullet to the head. He will never be stripped of his humble and heroic reputation.
A man who puts his life on the line; a man who does what he feels he must do. It’s evident that no man wants to go into war, anyone could run from it like Tim O’brien when he was drafted into the Vietnam War, but Lavender faced a terrifying scenario head on. A hero is selfless, brave, and determined. The act of fighting in the war automatically makes a hero all of the above; wartime hero’s put their life on the line, they commit to their duties and they never know whether they’ll come out of it alive. These hero’s demonstrate many of the characteristics of a hero and they do so with dignity. A hero impacts all aspects of someone's life and leaves a positive impression, but there’s no limit to the amount of characteristics that could be used to define a hero.

Lavender was drafted into the military and rather than running from such a horrifying situation he took every opportunity to show such heroic acts. It takes bravery to surrender your life and devote it to your country. He fought with the utmost chivalry and held his courage strong. He never asked for a thank you nor recognition. One bullet to the head and Lavender’s life had come to a sudden end, but that doesn’t make him a weak link nor a dud, but only makes him more of a hero. Not only was he brave and determined, but he had lost his life in the most selfless

This summer I was at the Ottawa County fair doing the off-road Derby. I wasn't sure about doing it at first, but my mom and dad said I would be fine.I got to choose what number I was and I got to choose what color it was too. In the end my mom and dad were right, it was fun and I got 3rd place for my first time. By doing the derby for the first time I showed Bravery. Bravery has risks and to other people they could be good risks and bad risks. The character’s Louie from the book Unbroken and the sniper from the short story “The Sniper” shows Bravery through the joining the war while trying to survive, and already being in the war while being prepared and trying to survive.
There is no room for fear in war or one of your fellow soldiers could be injured or even killed. One reason he is considered a brave hero today is because he kept going never looking back while experiencing more than anyone can
As people ponder about heros, superheroes or Benedict Arnold, valiant and lionhearted attributes make a hero there whole. Benedict Arnold lead his troops into dangerous settings such as “morasses, thick woods, and over mountains,” but he never backed down and was determined to succeed (Sheinkin 78). Throughout all of the barriers, Benedict Arnold prevailed even when the Dead River was not so dead. After rainfall for several days, Benedict Arnold and his fellow soldiers arrived to a huge flood; “the endless rain was slowly bringing the river to life” (Sheinkin 67). Although a major problem, Arnold courage pushed through the water. A threatening “hurricane [was] sweeping inland,” but Benedict Arnold continued to fight for his country like a true hero (Sheinkin 67). Courage in Benedict Arnold’s life is great even when the situation is critical and alarming as being a
What characteristics do you consider a hero to possess? Do they have to r risk their lives helping others or can they be a regular person living a typical life? I live with a hero, Robert White. I have known Robert since December 2002. He is an everyday “average Joe” hero in an extremely modest and contemporary way. He maintains some of the attributes that pertain to a hero. Robert is compassionate, hard working, and empathic.
The most celebrated heroes take a stance because it is right to do so, not because they believe they will walk away with their lives. Such selfless courage is a victory in itself. An example of a person who epitomizes all the aspects of courageousness
Starting with the basics of heroism, heroes can be very different from each other. They have different jobs, grow up in different types of households, and learn different sets of skills and each have a different purpose or motivation for their heroism. There are however a few traits that run across the board no matter what type of hero you are dealing with.
“It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived.” (Lee, 1989, p. 111) This quote from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, displays that bravery and courage are not always the stereotypical dream of someone who is heroic. Clichéd heroism comes in many different forms, ranging from noble self-sacrifice to superheroes. This is a satisfactory example of courage however it is not the true definition of a hero.

“A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway. ”-Christopher Reeve. There are many ways in which a hero can be described. Some popular characteristics are courage, determination, and being inspiring. These soldiers leave their families and risk their own lives to defend their country. Another example, I find that exemplify the nature of heroism are police and firefighters. I believe that they are heroes because they to risk their lives to save others. Finally, my final example that I believe exemplify the nature of heroism is Stephen Hawking. I find him a hero because of what he has become. For some who don't know Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) at the age of 21. The disease had caused him to become paralyzed. However, that didn't stop him to at all. Now he's the most known English Theoretical Physicist in the world and he continue to be. These are the people who I believe exemplify the idea of a heroism in the
In the mission of leaving no man behind, we see several characters take heroic actions for one another. Black Hawk Down depicts a hero as one who shows great courage, by taking risks without regarding the safety of them self. The turning point in the morality of what the soldiers are fighting is shown by two soldiers, Sergeant Sizemore and Private Thomas. Sergeant Sizemore’s request to go into battle is refused due to a cast he bears on his
