The summary writing strategy has helped me in numerous ways. This strategy helps keep all your information organized. I need to continue working on my grammar, punctuation, and use of transition words. The strategy and steps I plan to use are TAPFOR, brainstorming, and the graffic organizer. It is far more effective to keep a summary short. Summary writing is a great skill to have. Summaries are an important part of our everyday lives that help us share information
In assignment number three, I was instructed to write a short summary about an article titled Hidden Intellectualism by Gerald Graff. Learning goal number two is being able to write in various academic genres. I demonstrated that I understood this learning goal because I was never able to write in any other genre then free writing. This assignment helped me perfect my skills in writing short summaries about an article because it broadened my expertise in writing. Thinking of summarizing, you’d incorporate it as an easy task but for me it really wasn't. Writing a short summary on an interesting article was not easy. I started off by using the skills of learning goal number one and annotated the article throughout my reading. Writing in different
In ” Decisions and Revisions: The Planning Strategies of a Publishing Writer,” Carol Berkenkotter describes a “lab” that she performed on Donald M. Murray to better understand how professional writer’s revise their work; in “Response of a Laboratory Rat–or, Being Protocoled,” Murray discusses not only how he felt about being a “lab rat”, but also what he took away from the experience.
Communication in writing skills for the past six weeks were standards information on different sorts of sources for rapidly flowing needs of today’s writers. The essay written by Michael Bunn, entitled “How to Read Like a Writer” conferred the main outlook that someone as a writer needs to examine, and keep in mind while reading any kind of written manuscripts far beyond the typical reading set of mind.
In “The Importance of Writing Badly,” Bruce Ballenger encourages his students to write about how they feel and to not worry about it if it is not the perfect piece. He means that when you are writing that you should not worry about it if it does not sound perfect but can continue writing if it does not make sense. When someone is getting ready to write an essay they should take out a piece of paper and come up some ideas to talk about. This would allow someone to start thinking about what they need to include and what they want to put in there to grab the reader’s attention. Ballenger is encouraging his students to write badly. He stated “When I give my students permission to write badly, to suspend their compulsive need to find the “perfect

The Capella University writing process includes four main parts. First, there is a prewriting, which allows the student to generate ideas of what the content of the assignment will be (Capella University, 2017). This step creates the audience and the purpose of the assignment. The next step is drafting the assignment, which allows the student to document the evidence that supports the main ideas (Capella University, 2017). This step is important because it helps determine if the evidence presented strongly supports the topic. The next step of the writing process is revising, which allows the student to make changes that will strengthen the content of the assignment (Capella University, 2017). Revising is another important step that
My, writing strategy utilizing rhetorical knowledge has been significantly improved through concentrated techniques aimed at developing paragraph construction by use of rhetorical modes.
Taking a look back at my past writing assignments and drafts for each one, I can clearly see the improvement in how they are organized. My first draft for writing assignment 1 was basically one long paragraph. I clearly remember Mr. Bogdaniec’s advice on how to separate and create individual paragraphs that only contain one topic or main idea. Also with his handouts on writing an introductory paragraph and how to write the conclusion paragraph were extremely helpful in putting together my first writing assignment in this class. I followed the steps on brainstorming and then steps for creating a plot, and didn’t feel overwhelmed and confused as I had
The writing of my college essay was quite a process. Normally for me writing comes rather easy, I do not struggle putting my ideas on paper. At first I thought that this essay would be simple to do and not be very stressful. It turned out to be quite the opposite in fact, just brainstorming was a struggle for me. It was difficult for me to think about my life and how it is special. To me, the events that have shaped me do not seem that relevant, at 18 I had never really payed much attention to how certain things affected me, I just lived my life. eventually , with the help of Mary, I came to the realization that having my summer taken away from me due to a broken foot had really changed my life philosophy, it truly changed who I was and my outlook on life.
The first strategy I use is reading aloud to myself. After staring at a computer screen, I print out my essay and grab a highlighter and pen. I read the essay out loud and make corrections and highlight areas that need to be edited. This helps me to find awkward wording as well as find grammar and spelling errors I may have done. Just by simply rereading my essay, I can catch majority of my grammar and spelling errors. Too often I get into a flow of writing down content that I do not pay attention to grammar/ spelling errors. It can be time consuming because I tend to stumble on word. I am also partially blind. It made sound strange, but this can cause me to miss the “s” needed for subject verb agreement. I still prefer this method because
One of the tips that has really helped me the when writing and improving my writing is, write your thoughts before organizing them. My mind flows when I am writing a paper or thinking about the topic and I sometimes forget to write everything down, so before I write a paper I sit down and really think about my topic, then I just write words and phrases that come to mind so that when I start my paper I have a general idea about what I want to write.
I have learned a lot of things throughout this unit. When I first started this unit I didn’t know how to write a summary, analysis or a citation properly. That scared me because I am going into college next year and I have to know these things. Now I know how to write a summary without killing it to death. I know how to write analysis even though I make them a little bit too long at times.

Coming into freshman comp at the beginning of the semester I was worried this would be my hardest class and that I would hate it. Walking in the classroom on the first day and hearing the words, “you will be writing a 10-12 page paper by the end of the semester,” gave me so much anxiety and made me very nervous for the class. As the class is now coming to a close it has made me realize I should have never been so worried about this class and that I would learn many new things I did not know about writing such as writing strategies, metacognition, and how to write a good research paper.
