I am interested in the Resident Advisor position because I have the qualities a Resident Advisor should have such as a good work ethic, leadership skills, and communication skills, which indicates to me that I could be a good fit for the Resident Advisor position. I have a great adaptability and an eagerness to learn. I like to push myself and constantly grow, as well as encourage others to do the same. I have a healthy respect for the rules and great organizational skills, which would help me give my residents everything they need. I would really enjoy the position, as I would also like having new people to connect with. The position of Assistant Resident Director is a challenging, engaging, and rewarding experience. I can see it in each ARD I have worked with. I got into residence life to grow as an individual. Many of the positions offered to student staff serve as catalysts for personal growth. Over the last year and a half of serving as a Resident Advisor, I have come to realize the biggest growth happens when you put the needs of others above your own. In my eyes, a successful ARD will have built an atmosphere where growth can occur and is aware of the wellness of the hall community. The role of ARD is almost limitless in terms of how many lives can be touched.
A doctoral degree combining both supervisory professional mental health counseling skills and counselor education has always been at the forefront of both my personal and professional goals. Being afforded the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision will allow me the ability to enhance my professional competencies and achieve my set goals. My primary desire is to obtain a position as a college professor that will allow me to nurture the professional growth and maturity of future mental health professionals. Pursuing the doctoral degree will simultaneously assist in developing skillsets that will further prepare me for advanced opportunities in not only teaching but supervision and research. Additionally, I desire to devote time and research to small rural communities to establish prevention based programs that will bridge communities as it relates to mental health challenges. A PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Capella University will afford me the opportunities to positively impact change in future professionals and the communities for which I serve.
I am applying to be a Resident Advisor to be able to get the opportunity to be apart of the East Carolina welcoming committee for new students moving in. I want to help make sure that the students staying in the dorms are safe and comfortable with their living arrangements. As a freshman, I know that living away from home and starting college can be tough. I want to be able to create a home away from home for them to feel comfortable in. I communicate effectively, I am approachable, and a leader. These qualities I say best describe me as a person. By having great communication skills it will help me as an RA to effectively communicate to people that live in the dorms about rules and regulations. Also by having great communication skills, I

1. There are many attributes that I have that are much more indicative of my potential than my SAT scores. To begin, I am a dedicated student-athlete who also takes AP classes in all of my core courses. In field hockey, I was a four-year starter, First Team All-Conference for three years, Second Team All-State, and in my senior year I was voted captain by my teammates; to add, I am doing all of this while taking AP classes. This shows that even though my scores for a single standardized test were not as high as I would have liked.

I will like for the Summer Housing Assistant Position because I originally wanted to work for Housing for my work Study but there was no more space available. When I saw the sign I thought it would of been a great opportunity for me to do over the summer instead.I also want to to gain more leadership roles on campus. Plus, while moving into the dorms during the fall of 2015 I had a great experience. Everything ran smoothly. I want to help plan that. I want the next class to have a great experience. I want to help make everything as easy as possible.
The three most frequent and major responsibilities for a successful Resident Advisor are availability, communication, and awareness. Availability, being there when your residents need it, is important because it presents you as someone that they can rely on and who will always be there when they need it. Communication, creating an environment where both myself and the residents are comfortable sharing questions and concerns, is important because the only way to assist a resident is to know what’s going on and without communication you will not know what your residents need. Awareness, knowing what is happening around you, is important because there will be times when residents don’t want you to know something or are doing something that they shouldn’t be.
My interest in a Resident Assistant position comes from my desire to help. I was born with a very strong sense of empathy and if I see that a person is struggling I do all that I can do to alleviate them. Whether it is a person with a learning disability who struggled in class to the “weirdo” in high school who just wanted a friend, I’ve been there for them. Nothing is more painful to me than seeing a person being mistreated, under respected or neglected and I do all I can to protect people from this. My goal is to make every person feel as if they have someone on their side, someone

During my childhood days I used to visit my grandmother’s place in my native village. I saw my grandmother suffering from cervical spondylosis. I used to see her wincing in pain. For the entire village there was just one small hospital without even basic amenities which she could not afford to go. It was then that I noticed that in my country India, home to over a billion, has a low doctor to patient ratio and even fewer people who could afford treatment. From that day on wards I was intrigued by medicine and the spirit of making health service available to all.
