I am currently a sophomore working toward my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. I am writing to express my interest in applying for the Resident Assistant position for University of Connecticut. I first learned of Resident Assistant program through my Resident Assistant my freshman year. Since, then I have gained interest in this program and I believe that my abilities are an exact match.
My volunteer background at Oakdale Elementary School and Backus Hospital has provided me with many skills and the understanding of dealing with different personalities. As a volunteer at Oakdale Elementary School I was responsible for managing and assisting the teacher with a third grade class. During my experience at Oakdale Elementary school, I learned
On Wednesday, March 09, 2016 at approximately 7:30 p.m. Resident Assistant (RA) Jessica Estrada, Resident Assistant (RA) Christina Mbadie, Resident Assistant (RA) Phuong Phung, Resident Assistant (RA) Miki Sylva, Resident Assistant (RA) Keva Evans, Resident Director (RD) Krystol Myers, and Janneal Pennant were in the second floor lobby for their weekly active. Resident Kyle Palani Canacunga was passing by with a shopping cart. RD Krystol approached Kyle and kindly asked him if she could take the cart because they were now only allowed to be out during check in and check outs. Kyle then refused to comply and started raising his voice trying to convince RD Krystol that he would bring the cart back. RD Krystol explained to Kyle that the privilege for the carts had been lost due to people taking them and not bringing them back. Kyle then stated, “You know me, I am going to bring it back.” RD Kyrstol explained to him that it will not be fair for other residents if she allowed him to use the cart. Kyle then said, “This is bullshit, Krystol.” Then he walked away.
My nature to serve attracts me to the Houston Methodist Summer Teen Volunteer Program. My goals are to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine, and to give back to the community. I would like to learn a lot about how people live by the ways they get hurt or how they deal with being sick. It’s a good study of human behavior because you see people at their highest and lowest extremes of emotion. To further my goal of pursuing a career in medicine, it is important for me to get hands on experience of serving people and executing work in a responsible manner. When a person donates their time, they give hope to someone who needs it. I feel that I will be also benefited because I get to see how my contribution has made a difference.
I have been volunteering at the University of Maryland Medical Center since the summer of my freshman year. As a volunteer at the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, I am committed to provide excellence in service, work independently and efficiently, and exhibit patient interaction skills. Ever since I have started volunteering at the hospital, I have learned to become more patient and understanding toward the people who I interact with, and consequently, I have become a more sympathetic and compassionate person.
Volunteers who enjoy working with children, science and education are well suited to this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers may participate in as many, or as few, classroom activities as they like.
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
People have told me that I have a certain aura about me that people felt comfortable and felt at ease. My sophomore year at Nevada I became a Resident Assistant and this aura that people felt made it easy for me to connect with my residents and assist them in their struggles that they were facing. Taking this job I had learned so much and had grown tremendously from it. Many people think an RA to be the police of the residence hall but for me that was not the case. I wanted to help the students get acclimated to the university and aid them in their times of need. I was not just busting students for alcohol but I was trying to help them be safe. Student came to me for advice from heartbreak of a loved one, to suicidal thoughts and depression.
Through National Honors Society, I have gained self-confidence, empathy and respect not only for teachers, but also for employees who diligently fulfill their responsibilities. Volunteering allows participants to perceive certain situations from different perspectives and therefore has allowed me to enhance my understanding of the plights teachers and young students may encounter on a daily basis. From grading a gigantic stack of assignments to engaging in mundane tasks such as tearing out multiple worksheets from workbooks, there are many events that occur outside of typical school hours that I would not have been able to witness and learn from had I not been an active member of National Honors Society. Likewise, now reflecting on all my volunteering at my local
For the past number of years, I have taken part in volunteer activities on my own, and as a member of the National Honor Society. Multiple times through the past four years, I participated in children’s holiday parties at my church. My main tasks were assembling displays and games, and assisting children who wanted to play one. I have also fundraised for many charities concerning life-threatening illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, cancer, and diabetes. During my freshman year, I completed nearly 25 hours of community service at Julia Boyer Reinstein Library. Besides restocking library materials and cleaning up around the building, I also assisted many people who were looking for certain items or had general questions. People from all different demographics and age groups visited the library and had an abundant amount of needs that I helped fill. Later this
I am writing to apply for the posting of research assistant for your current study Vermont Study of Aid-in-Dying. I am rising senior undergraduate student who has an extensive background and interest in interdisciplinary medical humanities research. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Medical Humanities and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and expecting to graduate in May 2018. I was awarded the Burch Fellowship this year for my senior honors thesis research regarding clinical empathy and am currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Health Humanities Journal of UNC. My future aspiration is to complete a Master of Public Health graduate program before applying to medical school.
In my senior year of high school, I became the student body Vice President and discovered what it means to be an influential leader on campus. This experience exposed me to develop an array of qualities that can be utilized in the role of being resident assistants (RA). I have gained insightful knowledge of the intricate details necessary to be a productive leader who guides in an encouraging and supportive way. A gift that I posses is my ability to organize creative and innovative ways to build camaraderie among the people I serve. This is crucial and beneficial because it ensures for a safe and welcoming environment where everyone feels confident to seek assistance when needed. As a representative of this university and myself, I bring a dedicated intensity about infusing change by vocalizing the wants, needs, and concerns of the students to make my school resilience to an environment conducive to learning.
The agency that I will be volunteering with this semester is Give Kids the World in Central Florida. Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization that assists in providing free accommodations for families and children diagnosed with health conditions that are life-threatening allowing them to carry out family vacations at the Give Kids the World Village. As a volunteer, Give Kids the World allows a variety of different ways to get involved, such as being able to work within Guest Dining, Transportation Services, Entertainment etc. Being a Health Sciences Pre-Clinical major and interested in wanting to pursue Medicine in the future, allowed me to gain a significant interest in wanting to volunteer at this agency as I have always been intrigued by willing to help and give back. Furthermore, the reason I chose this agency is that it will allow me to gain experience from a different perspective while giving me the opportunity to provide help, care, joy and hope to children and their family members. Overall, being able to participate, as a volunteer will allow me to give back by providing assistance and care in different areas that are available, enabling me to have a great chance at being able to contribute and make a difference within the community.
Your opening position for Medical Assistant, as described, is such a perfect match with my skills, as you will see when you review my resume. My educational background as medical student overseas has given me a solid understanding of medical environment, including but not restricted to, diseases, drugs and procedures; this wide field of skills has been creating a smooth workflow for my providers.
After a single telephone call to the Children’s Hospital Volunteer Services Coordinators, I learned that volunteers were readily accepted to serve within the hospital’s recreational therapy deparment. When they asked my reason for volunteering, I explained to them that I wanted to help the children develop their leadership potential as well as other abilities. The members of volunteer services seemed excited.
Although volunteerism is commendable at all times, serving my community is not an activity that I pursue only to satisfy state mandates, club requirements, or even to enhance my high school resume, it is a lifestyle. Therefore, I am a dedicated volunteer at the Upstate Family Resource Center and have embraced a myriad of activities, however, none of which are comparable to the impact of providing childcare. Committing to Grace permits a fellow “Bulldog” stricken with a rare form of leukemia to recover from weekly chemotherapy treatments without the disturbance of his lovable but rambunctious baby sister. Volunteerism has been a strategic link to refining my communication and organizational skills. Effective communication with Grace enables
